I'm assuming it's best to book both days for the photo tour just in case for WX?

As far as lenses go for the air-air missions, any recommendations as far as focal length range desirable? My primary lens on my D7100 is a 17-55 f2.8, but that doesn't have VR. For the D4 I have an 85 f1.4, also no VR. My 70-200 VR is probably overkill of the long end, right?

That's great Erich. You might want to make your Ft. Worth reservations as soon as you can. I'll put you down for Wed/Thurs at the Marriott in Allen. I imagine you want to spend Sunday night in Ft. Worth if you're heading home Monday.

Best lenses for A2A are 24-70, 70-200.

Right, any recommendations for hotels in Ft.Worth for Fri-Sun?

I was afraid you'd say 24-70. I've been trying to avoid that obvious $ choice since getting the D4.

Ten straight days at Reno. At the field every day at 5:30AM, everyday not leaving until well after sunset with the exception of two. Some images soon. Hard to think that we may never race again.

The 24-70 is great for A2A (though it's not a VR), but if you don't own one and do have the 70-200, stick with that for the mission. You won't want to change lenses anyway in the B-25; if you plan on bringing a second body, then you would want a wider lens on it.

Is that the sense among the teams: that this was the last Reno? I watched a lot of the live Ustream coverage the last three days; great stuff. Too bad Strega had so many problems early in the week, but I get the feeling young Hinton in Voodoo had a few inches of manifold pressure in reserve, if he'd been pushed.

Of course it will be the last Reno...

I've never been, which means it has to go away before I get a chance to attend.

Thanks for the A2A lens advice. I'll take the D4/70-200f2.8VR2. I may still get the 24-70 f/2.8 and put it on the D7100, but that combination isn't very wide. I'm also considering the DX 16-85VR lens. That'd give me a fairly wide coverage between the 2 cameras, and the 16-85 seems to be rated fairly high.

While on vacation I visited the Speyer Technical Museum in Germany. I highly recommend it.

Sounds good, Al. If it's bumpy you'll want to favor the use of the 24-105. And since you don't really need the long end of the 70-200 for A2A, you might consider swapping the lenses and shooting the 24-105 on the 1D4 and the 70-200 on the 5D3. Your call, of course: our subjects tend to fill the viewfinder even at 24mm when they tuck in close under the B-25's tail.

The second frame is a hefty crop of a D800 file, but it was still shot with the 24-70.
