Just got an email that my Ronin has shipped, and they expedited shipping. Should have it in a couple of days.

Which is? I'm not acquainted with them at all.

Two trips, but the first one doesn't count: we're in and out of KIAD, and we have zero discretionary time. We land at 11pm on 10/1 and immediately head south to Orange, VA for meetings on 10/2 and 10/3, returning to Dulles just in time to catch our return flight.

I'll be back in DC on the 7th at 10pm, and I leave on the 11th at 10am. I'm staying at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill, as that's where the conference will be held. Are you more of a morning person or evening person? Maybe we can get out and do a little dawn shooting, or some nighttime cityscapes or something? Shoot the breeze while we shoot something else.

Or, we'll figure something out. I've got a lot going on already, but it'd be great to hang out with you again. And maybe we've got one or two other members of our group here who might care to join us?

I don't mean to downplay the significance or intent, but it's not just the poppies: the entire livery begs for a redesign.

I understand that Zim. Sometimes it seems it is a collection of thoughts vs a planned design.

Pretty safe to say everyone knows the purpose and significance. There's been a few memorial paint jobs over the years, that tucano looks like it was accomplished with clip art, and the comments are simply pointing out that it could have been much better done.

Remembrance Day is not so well known outside the Commonweath countries, though. It's called Veterans Day here in the States, for instance, and poppies don't figure into it.

More like the U.S. Memorial Day. From Wilkepedia:

The remembrance poppy (a Papaver rhoeas) has been used since 1920 to commemorate soldiers who have died in war. Inspired by the World War I poem "In Flanders Fields", they were first used by the American Legion to commemorate American soldiers who died in that war (19141918). They were then adopted by military veterans' groups in parts of the former British Empire: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Today, they are mainly used in the UK and Canada to commemorate their servicemen and women who have been killed in all conflicts since 1914. There, small artificial poppies are often...Show more

This isn't the greatest photo in the world, but I thought I would finally get around to showing y'all a photo of our T-33's new paint job. She is in the markings of the 111th FBS in Korea. They were flying F-84's at the time, but had at least one T-33 marked like this as a squadron hack. The 111th's real home was, and still is, Ellington where we keep all the jets, and where the F-4 was last assigned before going to Davis-Monthan. Hope you like it...

Chandler got to witness first hand a few of the frustrating elements of commercial shooting today. We put in a 12 hour day today, and six of those were reasonably productive!

The high note was getting that email from B&H telling me that my Ronin had shipped and apologizing for any inconvenience the early delivery might cause...................? Apology accepted I will say that I have second guessed the order a couple of times....is this thing going to be as cool a tool as I had hoped? Or is it going to sit in it's big Stormcase and not earn it's keep? I'm not sure, but time will tell. It occurred to me that one isn't going to be able to run and gun with it and be focusing, zooming, etc., so you must have to focus, pick your focal length and capture the clip within those parameters. Near as I can tell there isn't a mechanism to allow you perform those functions via a remote. It would have to be be built into the grip somehow. I believe I can switch the shutter button function on the 810 to video start/stop, and then I could use the new Nikon remote trigger to at least start/stop videoing. Anyone have any insight into a technique that I don't know about?

Additional good news from B&H, what I thought was a $4500 package has been reduced to $2,995.00? Who does that when a hot item has just been released early and the pre-orders have all been placed at $4500.00? Nice surprise!

Eddie, no I sure don't. Did you ever help us with the F-4 when we first got her and kept her in the old alert sheds? That would've been in 2001 I think.

First time having to edit for TOPP. Since we're talking about the 111th FS, I'll share a shot by a friend of mine. He shot it, I did the edit.
