Thanks all for the kind comments on my cabin in the woods pic.
It was an hour's worth of work to set up and shoot...but I was on vacation, in the mountains of New Mexico. so who cares how long it took!

Jim,
We are truly blessed to be able to spend some time in our cabin.
I wish everyone could go with!

I just hate the fact that it's a 11 hour drive from home.

Before we moved to Iran back in the '70s, I had 15 inoculations over two days and spent the following week shivering under a blanket.

Yeah, no fun at all...

Having that many jabs is (or should be) done in a very complicated schedule. You can have any number of "killed vaccines" (eg whooping cough) or toxins (eg tetanus) at various times but all live vaccines (eg smallpox/TB/measles) should be given at the same time or you run the risk (theoretically) that your body is so busy producing immunity to the first one that later ones don't get spotted and cause a real infection. Added to that, some can be given at the same time, but in different arms, whilst others have to be given at different times! Finally, isn't it a strange language where inoculation is still the verb even though the eye is no longer involved - it was where Edward Jenner first inoculated against smallpox with cowpox in 1796!

The government has us so polarized that each ideology/economic strata cheers when the other gets some right taken away, while neither side realizes that, one by one, no one will have any rights.

Yes, it is. In addition to the science done at NCAR they have a permanent exhibit of interest to photographers and weather buffs: photos of atmospheric optical phenomena, with explanations.

As for the 'mountains': the hills behind NCAR top out around 8300'. Within 20 miles there are several peaks above 14,000'.

Reminds of my step dad telling me how to determine if you are on a ship or a boat. If it fits in your vessel, it is a boat and you have a ship, If it is bigger than the one you are on, you are on a boat.

Nothing against your photo of it, but am I the only one who thinks the paint job on that Tucano is fairly hideous?

I think they could have found a better way of painting the poppies on the fuselage.

"Fairly hideous" seems apt.

It also describes my upcoming fall travel schedule pretty well! Panama, Boston, Rome, Florence, Venice, Guatemala (3x), Washington DC (2x), with potential trips to São Paulo and Barcelona not yet confirmed, for a total of five conferences, four (to maybe eight) full days of teaching family-business courses, two Board retreats, one financial-planning certification exam, one corporate-governance certification exam, and one romantic getaway (the most important of all, of course).

The getaway will commemorate a recent achievement: 15 years of holding on tightly to the light of my life while she graciously continues to put up with all my crap. From the schedule above, not hard to guess where we (and the D810) are going.
