An odd day for me at Farnborough yesterday. I went with my camera club to the pub at the incoming end of the runway (I usually go to the QinetiQ car park at the other end). Definitely not as good a photography site as QinetiQ as over a residential area so most aerobatics at other end over (for London commuter belt!) fairly open country, but good company, a bar, and barbeque instead!! Boeing 787 and Poseidon withdrawn from show "in respect for 777 in Ukraine" and Red Arrows display curtailed about 2/3 way through because of bird strike to Red 8 (their third in two weeks!). Very overcast/intermittent rain this morning so probably won't go today but good forecast for Sunday and Super Connie and Canberra are flying, so will probably be in QinetiQ again. Anyway, here are a few from Friday at Farnborough:
Niall

The Avro Anson (only flying one in the world) from the Shuttleworth Trust

Spanish Sea Harrier

Red Arrows Red 8 landing after the bird strike - no obvious damage visible.

And, to end, The Mighty Vulcan!

Good Morning Glenn,

No, the city hired a great guy from Green Bay to manage our FBO. Adam took him for his first aerobatic ride yesterday. Chandler, JR and I were at the hangar, so I headed out to my spot next to the runway to create a momento for Mark.

I picked up my new Nikons yesterday. Spent a little time at HQ getting them fine tuned to my work style. FYI, batteries for the D800/D810 have been scarce since the 800 was released. I now have three, two more coming on Tuesday. I use the optional battery grip, just because I have gotten comfortable with cameras that have more mass than the 800 series w/o a grip. Nikon thought that grip out, there are two inserts, one allows you to utilize a second Nikon battery, extending power life. The other insert is for AA batteries which allows you to power the camera with readily accessible AA's if you happen to be someplace where wall charging isn't an option.

Fabulous video, but don't you have mountains in Texas already??
As regards the Patrouille de France - you'll have to make do with this til you can get across the Atlantic

The last few days we've had a couple of inches of rain and highs in the low 70's! I don't believe I've ever experienced a mid July day in the low 70's here in The Lone Star. Just loving' that! I told Chandler that it was too chilly to go fly the Cub in short sleeves yesterday..... he just looked at me and shook his head. Of course, he sits in front, out of the wind!

I used to use AA batteries in the vertical grip of my D300. High-quality rechargeable batteries yielded nearly 5000 shots per charge.

Despite having had very little time to spend with the D810 so far, I see a lot of improvements in the firmware. And I'm loving the new, quieter shutter and mirror: it's a dramatic improvement, instantly appreciated.

It was 66 yesterday morning on the back porch, I thinking we might have a cold winter.... Hopefully

Just spoke with a Durango based Buddy of mine. Apparently the 51 was executing a high speed low approach, pulled vertical and fell out of it. I hate it when it happens, but it's considerably more comforting when you can't blame the aircraft .

Unfortunately that line of reasoning has its own slippery slope. Many a sincere pilot has begin that argument saying "that's not something I'd do" and ended up saying "oh God". No matter what the cause, the important thing is that we learn from others' misfortunes.
