Good Evening Eddie Ray,
Every year Sigma beats the drum about a push for higher quality, and I do think their lenses have improved considerably over the years. I looked at the Sigma 14MM when I was buying my Nikon 14MM Rectilinear. People told me the Canon was ridiculous and the 2.5X pricing was just the name, blah, blah. I pulled a favor with a supplier and took a brand new copy of each lens and shot them side by side for a day. The Canon won out across the board, sharpness in the corners, chromatic aberration, build quality, pretty much everything. I bought the Canon.
I have no idea how that experience translates into Sigma today. I'd guess that they are better than they were ten years ago and that the price differential is still sizable. I also need to be cognizant of the fact that every doesn't make their living with their glass, nor have the budget for OEM high end lenses. Were I looking, and considering a Sigma, I'd read all the reviews that I could find, then find some more, then talk my supplier into allowing me to shoot for a day with the one I was considering. Then I would make my decision and be pretty comfortable with it.
Do we have anyone in the group who has shot a recent Sigma model?
