Only an 8x10? Wow Zim, I would think that would make a great 16x20 for his hanger walls or something

I don't yet have any images of flying machines, but I did get this fellow (and a few of his friends) on the ferry from Vancouver to Victoria...

The new AF-S 80-400 is doing very nicely on the D800. Definitely a keeper for those times when I'm traveling and the 200-400 or the 500 would not be appropriate for the packing list.

Plan your lodging now, as in right this very minute. Things usually fill up 6-8 months in advance (sometimes 10-11 months for summer reservations), and you'll probably find little-to-nothing available. Some of the places around the parks are dumps beyond belief: for example, stay the hell away from the "Yosemite View Lodge" based on my (shudder) personal experience, and don't ask for details... you don't want to know.

Plan out your driving times, too... those are long distances and the travel times quoted by Google Maps or Yahoo maps will seem very long to you, as though you could

Having been to Yosemite three times, Oakhurst CA is a good place to stay. It is about 1 hour to the valley from there. It is not many miles, but the road is not exactly straight!!

Will there be any other MA2Aers at this weekend's Gathering of Warbirds and Legends in Topeka? I head out today: decided to drive my Model S and it will take an overnight charging stop in western KS to get me there. At any rate, it would be great to meet up with anyone who's also going.

Fun times Zim! Looking forward to this October. Wish I had known that you were going to Topeka, might have influenced my decision to stand down. They wanted me to attend, but I blew it off. Have a great trip, keep us posted.

@Zim - The Jungmann image is terrific. I am stunned that the owner only wanted an 8x10

The 747 sure is a better looking plane. The 380 just looks fat.

Well, you might tell whoever 'they' are that I'll be there looking for A2A opportunities. Never hurts to shake the tree...

I'm a Boeing fan no doubt, but the 380 reminds me of the time I went to the circus as a youngster. We went into the freak show tent where the bearded lady was on display. She was sure ugly, but I could not stop looking at her

I'm in Goodland, Kansas, charging at an RV park while I wait for a big-ass line of T-storms to overrun my goal for the night, Wakeeney, KS. The car has done well: I would have made it well over 300 miles on the charge I left home with, but the wx radar returns are ugly and the headwinds suddenly got fierce.

Agreed Tim, however, having been on both, I prefer the 380 ( inside )...seat 43 A, B or C is THE place to be on a 380...front row near the door with oodles of leg room.

About to go down & make the bookings....I think I'll actually be on a 747 coming from Aussie but a 380 on the way home..

@ Jeff, beautiful light ,....loving the Steak & Kidney ala Boeing ,....liking the Steak & Kidney ala Airbus...

OOps TOP image...OK two images

On the subject of RC, Chandler was hyped up today about getting a beginner "park flyer" today. Against my better judgement, we bought a Super Cub that was supposed to be indestructible. 3/4 of a day fiddling with it, ten minutes of "flight" and it was in a $300 smoking hole. Why does one do things when one already has a very clear picture of the likely outcome?

Just gift him the software simulator, then when he gets good, get the real deal. One of the few instances I have found where software for learning pays for itself VERY quickly, IMHO

Absolutely - an RC flight simulator. I wish they'd have existed when I learned 29 years ago. I'm in the throes of considering getting an electric Super Sportster...

Loving the conversations, even though I've not been able to shoot many planes, what with the final week of summer semester coming up... Two courses complete, an A in one, and a B in the other, 3 more classes to finish up next week, and getting ready to breath a big sigh of relief for all of a week to recuperate from surgery on the 9th.

Nothing major, just having permanent tubes installed this time around.

If I didn't have plans for tomorrow after school (pre-op work), I'd go to the museum and check this out:
