Thank you Jeff and Itsed65! I like the tri-jets too.

Glenn,
You could incorporate a mach dial instead of an aperture...Just a thought.

But that one only goes down to 0.5!

Glenn, I think you have lots of words there; you might choose a less fussy/elaborate font. It looks too busy to me right now.

Through a careful and very controlled research effort, I determined that my new prop guards flex and break the prop tips just as quickly as if there were none. Guess I just need to learn not to have the props hit the ground!

Thats a weird deal with that Fury. I read some comments by supposedly clueful people that the 210 turned into the Fury while the pilot was "reaching" for his camera.

Just be careful out there Glenn, I've done this long enough to know that it can happen to anyone.

As I understand the "rules" of A2A, if someone is uncomfortable with a move, or doesn't wish to do it for safety reasons, don't push the matter and force things as this is likely going to be the result. Safety first as the saying goes........

Right, by clueful I meant first hand knowledge of that specific flight.

Jim: how is the 30 knot drone panning flight practice coming along??

It's easy to say "safety first", but things can go pear-shaped in a big hurry. An active imagination about what can go wrong is an essential trait in an A2A pilot. Complacency is a killer.

It's my understanding (from someone who was onboard) that they had concluded the official photo shoot using a Bonanza and that the accident occurred as the Sea Fury was departing for home.

If what you're saying is true Glenn, it sounds to me like it was simply a tragic mis-communication with the 210 and Fury each expecting the other to do something different than what they did. Unfortunately, it's not the first time something spontaneous and un-briefed ended badly.

Brief the flight .. Fly the brief .. No surprises

We all suffer from a little of the "I take this so seriously and every detail is worked and reworked" syndrome or we would never agree to do an air to air. Zim's post could not be more dead on.

I dreamt all night that we bought a Mustang that was resting inverted off of a runway after a new owner mishandled his first landing. No indication of what is going on in the back of my mind these days I guess it's better than the dream I had a week or so ago where I spent all night wheeling a grocery cart filled with all my camera and lighting gear, looking for work. The subconscious is a funny thing..................................or not!

No Glenn, my 30kt rotating exercises are a few pages down the curriculum. I'm currently in the section where you practice lift off, false confidence punctuated by panic, and bouncing it off of hard surfaces. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to have about six sets of props waiting in the wings.

Flying out to scout one of my A330 assignments today.

My Buddy Butch told me that he has decided to part with his King Air and purchase a new Citation Mustang. Looks like I'll be getting some jet time one way or another pretty soon.
