big Russian A/C is an Antonov AN124-100 aircraft. they regularly do a lot of heavy lifting services here in the US for Boeing and such. they move large components and Engines around the world. they have 1 base out of Boeing Field in SEA that I know of.

Awsome images JA,...I watched a fair bit of LeMnas & I was staggered by the pace of the Audis & the Toyotas, the pace through the Dunlop curves especially was nothing short of sensational...
I bought a 300f2.8 IS SI earlier this year, Ive used a 1.4TCIII & a 2xTCIII on it & both are very good,..a tad slower with the 2X,,...but still pretty good..
Used it on my 1D4 & 5D3,...both great combos ,...for extra reach I kept my 7D,...it performs very well with it also...
what a great lens they are,...Jim you certainly were right..

Nice story, Laura. Thanks for bringing it up.

Edit: Top of page, so I might was well briefly mention what I've been up to lately, since I'll be posting one of the few photos I've taken in the last couple of months.

My supervisor, Dick, recently retired after 43 years with our firm. And he's only 61. He meant a lot to many of us, and we needed to find an appropriate parting gift. He and his wife bought a condo with an ocean view on Nantasket Beach in Hull, MA, and he's been telling us that if we need him, he'll

Great shot Mark! A 4 am trip to Hull...probably the only time that traffic wasn't an issue...

Jan Arie,

Really enjoying the Le Mans images would love to see some night racing in person. All of my trips to the races have been in daylight hours.

I have slowly worked my way into the images from the Dayton Air Show. I have dedicated my Flickr set to Jane and Charlie.

The sky was not photo pretty that day but thanks to our friends at Adobe I managed to pull out a few decent ones.

These first few are of Jane, I wanted to get some nice ones for her as a thank you for the ride in Aurora. I would like to think she may see them even now.

You got some seriously nice shots there, Matt. I love the first one of Jane, she is just sitting there, no worries, just out taking some fresh air :-)

I love the head on shot of Fifi and the last yellow T-28 too. Very restful shots, somehow...

mot sure where to put this question. I would like to improve on sharpness of my plane images especially the old warbirds. Working on slower shutter speeds but still am not getting them as sharp as i would like. I use a 7d and a monopod and a canon 100-400 got tips on getting good prop blur and sharp images? Been using 125th which seems to be a good amount of prop blur. I know some use even slower speeds

I knew it was an Antonov just didn't remember the model number. Seen them flying over West Seattle going into Boeing Field in Seattle but never got a chance to get a shot close up like we did at the Everett Plant on Saturday

Jim, congrats on the 182 that is on the way. It was on of the the planes I honed in on as well when I went shopping back in 2000. I have been in DFW for work quite a bit and drove by TKI one day but had limited time or else I would have dropped a line. I like downtown McKinney quite a bit...reminded me of some historic towns in Georgia. Would be great to do lunch if your schedule ever meshes with mine. I have lots of ideas up in the air and am growing quite fond of Dallas.

J-A, you are one lucky gent to get to go to LeMans. Wonderful night images.

As an update, my absence has been due to a crazy photography schedule shooting IndyCar, Grand-AM, and AMA motorcycle races all around the southeast so far with travel to Ohio, Utah, Indy and more on the way. I never would have dreamed a camera would open so many doors. My photojournalism work can be seen at http://www.motorsport.com/all/photos/main-gallery/?ph=1419.

My son is now a check flight away from his PPL and goes on to his commercial rating and CFI to start building time. Anyway, going to get caught up and read some more of this great thread with great folks and photogs.

Nice series Matt. Campaign Gal was in the middle of restoration when I was up at Grimes for Doolittle four or five years ago. Looks like they did a nice job.

@JimClark: Most of the top aviation shooters I know don't use camera support when panning, preferring the freedom to maneuver of going hand-held. The path of an airplane through the sky during a banana pass may be simple enough, but the trajectory from the shooter's point of view is anything but.

1/125 is a good shutter speed for the flat engines, but the round engines will repay your working down toward 1/60th, and a T-6, with only two blades, won't give you a full disc until you go even slower. Helos really need 1/25 or even 1/15 for serious rotor blur, but 1/80 will at least show that you're trying. Practice acquiring your panning target off to the side with the tips of your shoes parallel to the runway, so you're square when the subject is directly in front of you and don't have to shift your feet right when they're closest to you.

But mostly it's just practice. Some folks go out and shoot cars on the street just to keep their panning chops in shape.

[edit for TOPP: I'm on the iPad again, so it's slim pickins. How about an aerial view of Monument Valley in a dust storm?]

Awww Mike! I would have loved to have grabbed lunch. Keep me posted. My schedule is going to be calming over the next few months, it seems, although I really don't see any point in completely hanging up the spurs, just doesn't seem right. let me know if you get anywhere near, we'll figure something out. If you have a race in the area, I'll come shoot with you.
