Dear Glenn, Like others I'm staggered and amazed at the leaps forward you've made with your photography. On the LR and halo thing – may I suggest a little reading? -
http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Negative-Processing-Lightroom-Photoshop/dp/0321839579/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1399059776&sr=1-3&keywords=jeff+schewe

I've found his guidance – especially on the basics of the LR development module – to be very helpful. Oh, and not to mention embarrassing on account of the basic stuff I should have known, but didn’t. More power to your elbow young Sir.

I concur with Nick's recommendation 100%. While Messrs. Schewe's personality can be somewhat abrasive at times, he knows LR & PS as well as anyone. His work on maximizing image detail (sharpening) is excellent.

Here is a situation where my 5D3's sensor (as trained by Zim) really earned its stripes. As you can tell, the scene is significantly backlit and the foreground light was very dark. ISO 1600 and it was surprisingly simple for me to mitigate any noise in the shadows. Also a testament to the "Split Toning" sliders in LR. They allowed me to balance the cool shadow tones with the very warm highlight tones - we sure have some terrific tools available to photographers these days

Geez! Hate posting after a shot like that Jeff! Outstanding!

BUT here is one of my favs from the Porterville event. Processed a bit heavier to bring out the texture in the CJ-6.

And Happy Birthday Jim!

Happy birthday, Jim!

It feels like my birthday, too: I got a terrific present today when the FAA paperwork finally came through on my Pipistrel. Only 2-1/2 months after we unloaded the shipping container, and today was its first flight.

The story behind my N-number is that growing up, the family Cessna 172 carried N5298A. Still does, actually: I checked the database to see if I could have that N-number and had to settle for -Z instead.
