I just set up a Monday meeting at VanBortel to ink our deal on the Turbo Skylane. This is the end of the Cessna 182 production run and there are three left in the world that are factory new, all sitting in Arlington, Texas. This will come as no surprise to you who know me well, we have made arrangements to send the plane to paint and interior immediately. I think the paint and interior department at Cessna (piston) studied under the Stevie Wonder school of design, yuck!
I thought Van Bortel would have a stroke when I told him my plan, he laughed and said Harrison Ford just bought one of them and did exactly the same thing. I couldn't get the paint and burgundy velour interior off of and out of my '81 Skylane fast enough. I guess they have always been varying degrees of plastic and ugly.
I'm going to use the time to get my instrument/commercial written out of the way, fly it for a few hours to get familiar with the buttons and displays, then call the guys who send an instrument instructor to your location for 10 days and make sure you are rated prior to their departure.
