What a Cutie Jon! I love capturing moments like that. They really become valuable as the years fly by.

No TOPP for this one. Don't want to distract from the beautiful moment Jon captured.

Ordered my lens for the Central TX Airshow today. Last year I used the 100-400, this year I will try the 400 5.6. I was reading Roger's (Lens Rentals) comments for the two lenses. He said you get the 100-400, then, discover every shot is at 400mm. Well, that really wasn't 100% true last year, but I will have the 70-200 to back it up. I left it home last year because I had the 100-400. Anyway, why not try something different.

That'll be an interesting experiment Wrei. I'm sure that you will like that lens. I loaned my 100-400 to a friend/client for AFW last year and am getting in back in the next few days. I haven't missed it, which makes me wonder if I really need it. That said, I'll probably buy the series II of that lens if Canon ever decides to release it.

The more I think about it, the less interest I have in the 200-400................once again, if they ever release it. Ten grand for a 200-400 doesn't tempt me much.

I filled out my social security paperwork online yesterday; then I called the owners at work to tell them that my part time status would be even less part time. My goal to decrease my income tax by 50% has been quite successful. It's amazing how much richer we are now. (Richness does not always have anything to do with money!)

Time to put the computer down for another stimulating conversation with my bride of 40 years! Life is good, thank you God!

Wrei,

I think in the next few days I will be placing an order with Lens rental for the 100-400, also considered the 400 f5.6 but want the zoom for flexibility. We are going to Yellowstone/Tetons the last week of May, 1st Week of June and I'm thinking that would be the lens to marry to the 7D for the 2 week vacation. I'll have the 24-70 f2.8 on the 6D, with a 16-35 for widescapes.

Dan

PS - Congrads on the work status change. Sounds like a good work life balance move.

Thanks Dan. Last year I had the 100-400 on the 7D and the 24-70 on the 5D. It worked out good, I want to try a 400 prime to see how that works. I can't complain about the 100-400. The 100-400 from Lens Rental last year was really pristine. It was a shame it didn't come with a better operator!

Hey knucklehead, that 100-400 is a zoom!...Zoom out!

I had a chance to handle one at WPPI...

Let's just say it didn't dampen my enthusiasm at all.

I was excited for that lens til I heard the price, just seems way outside of an appropriate price range.

Interestingly enough, I have noticed that I was usually around 300mm for most passes, so I pulled the trigger on a 300 prime and have loved that lens. Not to say there won't be times I would want that extra 100 for sure.

I used to bring both a 100-400 and a 70-200 f/2.8 to air shows. The former because I knew I would use it a lot, the second because it's such a great lens. After never taking the 70-200 out of the bag during the first few shows, I stopped carrying the extra brick. It might have been a different story if I only had a 400 prime, but I still don't know if I would bother with the 70-200 unless it was on a second body.

Did we just gain a "Buddy" button?

Mark

Jay,
that is about one of the cleanest images I have seen here in a very long time. And this is not to detract from all of the fabulous images that have been posted, but the shiny metal and crispness of the image make me feel like I'm standing right there.

Wow

TYVM... Pretty happy with that one. It's heat haze season already so shots like that will be rare for a while.
