I misstated something in my mini-review of the new Nikon 80-400. It's actually an ounce or two lighter than the 70-200 f/2.8 VR II. More plastics, no doubt, but for all that the build quality is very good.

[edit for TOPP: this is my chorus, Sound of the Rockies (www.soundoftherockies.com) in performance last Saturday. I'm on the left side of the chorus, second man in from the end, second riser from the top, not that you can make me out in this shot. Which, by the way, I triggered with a remote in my pocket, while singing. Talk about patting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time...]

Heads up, Texas folk! The Collings Foundation have listed their ME-262 coming to Dallas(now), Denton, Temple, Austin and Fort Worth over the next few days/weeks, alongside the usual suspects... http://www.collingsfoundation.org/cf_schedule-wof.htm

Thanks for the heads up!

For those of you who would like a ride in this, it requires a pilot certificate and an up to date physical. They do offer unusual attitude training and type qualification for those of you who might want to add an Me262 to their cert .

yeah, run down to your local airport and flash your certificate: "Hi, I need to rent an ME262; I'm type qualified". That would work

What do they get an hour for that experience? Truthfully, that aircraft looks like one of those things kids build in a barn from stuff laying around. Can you imagine the cockpit? Spartan would be an exaggeration in the direction of luxury.

These are about the only aircraft I shot in the UK... Loitering outside terminal 5 while waiting for my friend to pick me up, and you can see planes landing on 09L.

Airbus A320

An Airbus A330 (I am no good at airliners; it's helpful when it's written on the side)

BA threw one of their Dove painted ones into the mix

But this Malaysian A380 snuck in behind me on 09R!

Oh yes. I cannot tell a lie, I am glad to be back in the sun!

Actually those pictures above are the first real test of my new lens; where it says 150mm, it's a 300mm equivalent on the micro 4/3 system. Seems to mostly work. Seemed to need the tracking enabled in order to focus/maintain focus better.

I didn't ask; I was afraid I might get tempted

The claim is that this was built from the original German blueprints. I didn't get up on the wing to check out the cockpit, but I presume it would have more or less modern instruments. And the engines are also modern, hidden away in those big nacelles. Those things aside, the airframe looks pretty much "near end of WWII desperation".

Yup; I was maybe 3:30PM when I got up to Denton and I think that the tank was full. The sun heating apparently caused a bit of fuel venting. They put a nice, decorative orange bucket underneath it, but I'd gotten all my pictures before that, thankfully

The 262 was built in Fort Worth back in the 1990's, basically reverse engineered from an original night fighter that was loaned to them from the Navy. The project was moved to the North West and finished there. There are 3 currnetly airworthy. Collings, Jerry Yagen's and the Messerschmitt Foundation in Germany.

Whole story here.
http://www.stormbirds.com/project/index.html

The cost of the "flight training" sortie is $3500. You only need a student pilot cert and a current medical to qualify.

The front panel is rather modern....the back is supposed to be the same. The throttles are in an awkward position under your left armpit....

It's not for the "broad shouldered" among us as evidenced by this test fit of yours truly...lol

With the triangular fuselage cross section...a certain Queen song comes to mind...lol

Welcome back Mikko! We've been missing your frozen air to airs!

I just realized, that before the beginning of March I had an almost 4 month total break from photographing anything related to aircraft!!! Either I must be sick, or I must have a wonderful, most lovely new girlfriend, who takes all my spare time. You can decide, which one would it be

Anyways, Finally I have some of those photos to share with you!!
