I'm hoping to have an R/C version of the Christen Eagle in that scheme this summer. Downloaded DPP last night & I've been re editing some of the photos from Wings Over Gatineau & getting much better results now. I'll have to find out why ACR is giving me a colour cast that makes the sky a bit purple. I'm much happier with these.

Escaped from the books yesterday after school, for just a little while. All I could get was this though.

Tadaaaa! Seven residences, a high school, a BBJ, and a marketing center, in seven days. Gotta be some kind of record, can't remember for sure, but I think it is. My feet say it is!

HQ tomorrow for R&R.

This week has been a good one for sure. The weather cooperated, the lighting cooperated, my back, knees and feet cooperated.

Look who made the cover of Frisco Style this month.............

Any Nikon guys have strong feelings one way or the other on this new 80-400 VR they released this week?

It's pricey, but still a relatively cheap way to get to 400mm. Looks to be optimized for the long end of things according to the MTF charts. I would expect to see some samples popping up soon as they apparently started shipping on Thursday.

It was strange with the old one...people either loved it and swore by it, or swore that it was among the worst lenses that Nikon made. One way or another it was definitely long in the tooth, every time a new lens was announced someone would gripe about waiting for the 80-400mm replacement.

It's definitely a good alternative to the bigger/heavier/pricier 200-400 f4 for travel and hiking. It should be very good quality based on Nikon's record of updating lenses. Price should come down once the initial rush to have it first dies down.

That's my take on it, if it cuts the mustard on IQ I'll be getting one for sure.

Andras,

Can you expand on the twitter posting you made about the D800E & 600F4 combo being better than the 1DX & 500F4 combo?

Thanks guys! I figured it would be a great lens. Bill Fortney just got his copy and he's out testing it so we'll see what he has to say. I really don't want to invest in longer Nikon primes until I see where the D4X rumors end up so this would be a good lens to give me a little reach with the D800 bodies.

Mark, While I'm sure the 600/4 is an incredible lens, unless one is shooting slower moving subjects than we normally do, the D800/600 combo isn't likely to be as good as the Canon 500 II and a 1DX. I would think that would be pretty much an ultimate combination for fast long glass shooting. I've said it several times before, much as I love the D800, it isn't fast by any stretch of the imagination, but then, I didn't buy it for it's speed.

Jim, my shots on the previous page were done with the current 80-400 and my poor skills. Rob also has and uses the current model.

Jay,

that is very reminiscent of some of Gavin Conroy's Air 2 Airs from New Zealand.

Jim,

that's why I'm interested to hear why Andras has come to the conclusion he has.
