There's a reason that, in the Motion Picture / TV industry, there are entire companies that do nothing but Grip and Gaff. It quickly becomes a specialty as production budgets increase.

What's the difference between gripping and gaffing, then? Gaffers have better tape? You don't hear about grip's tape...

Thanks Zim...

Jo: Grips handle scenery, etc... Gaffers are, for the most part, electricians.

*Blush*

I realized after I threw up that Ship Rock image from an old folder on my iPad that a) it had no watermark and b) I hadn't reworked it in several years. So, thanks to the 2012 Process in LR4 and a little Silver Efex Pro 2, here's today's version. I'm not sure whether I like it better or not, but it sure is different.

Thoroughly nice pictures all over this page.

Thanks for the explanation, Jay.

I like the stronger tones and contrast of Ship Rock itself in the second image, Steve, but the dark sky feels unnatural to me and distracts from the subject itself. IMHO, the best of both worlds would be the overall tonality of the second, but with the lighter sky of the first.

Thanks for the input, Rodolfo. I'll meet you halfway on the sky:

Funny you should ask that question about ISAP/Red Flag. Larry and I were discussing the subject today. We might have an announcement soon on that subject.

I like the Matthews stands and all the accessories, but they're a bit cumbersome if you don't have a half dozen minions like JM. The vast majority of my assignments are on location, so I use air cushioned aluminum stands from Bogen/Monfrotto I don't get pinched anymore either.

Hi guys apologies, MIA, haven't posted much here recently, but have been keeping up with the reading on this MA2A link which is completely on fire with insane quality postings by the ton, and you are certainly punished if you miss a few days.
Since a very disappointing day of shooting warbirds at Ardmore with a keeper rate of 10-20%, trying to figure out the complexity of the Nikon D600 focus system/shutter speed combinations, prop blur, with the 80~400, having moved from the Canon after about 40 yrs, where my keeper rate was more like 95%, it was a real shock and at best a hard landing.

I decided to go to the Gannet Sanctuary and practice on birds in flight for a day or two, trying different combinations of focus types AFA, AFS, AFC, with 3D, auto, 5, D9, D21, D39, to regain some confidence with moving subjects, tracking flight in continuous focus.

Having just spent 3 days at a NZ international air show on the Nth Shore Auckland, with biplanes, model prop & jet aircraft, 5 winged suite guys from the States, Melissa Pembleton from the US acrobatic team & her husband also a winged suite experienced jumper & other aircraft including Airforce 777, & airforce red checker acrobat team.

Jet-man Yves Rossy, ex Swiss Airforce & Swiss Air 747 Pilot flying his 2.4m carbon fibre wing strapped to his back with 4 jets & 22litres of fuel, flying at up to 200kph, by himself, first day, then on day 2 in formation with 2 aero club planes then on day 3 in formation with 5 club planes doing barrel rolls around them was amazing, with no controls but twisting his body to bank left or right dive or ascend, then release a small chute to slow his speed then release his main chute and land, gracefully was spectacular. All in all a very different air show.

The surprise was this young 18 year old who for a school project elected to build a 5th scale Mig 25, twin jet fighter plane, he is now 20 yrs old studying at University for a degree in Mechanical Engineering, photos of this follow
