Not only states but the CCP Ray!!!!! I feel the exact same way as you. I am very atuned to what is happening to my farming neighbors. I always attend the County "Harvest" breakfast in November where market prices, the past growing season, grain futures and of course how many "farmers" we lost this year to developers!
I am surrounded by farm land BUT the England Woods farm was sold to a developer for a "Over 50's Community"! Our County is pushing its development ahead of schedule!
"Pave over paradise and put in a parking lot"!
The city and county leaders here are setting us up for a water disaster. Our primary source of water is 12 feet below normal, and has been below normal for the last 3 years. I doubt we will see the level back up to "normal" in my lifetime. They do not realize how much water is used up by new commercial and residential development. The sustained water level in our main source of water (Belton Lake) is going down and it is nearly inversely proportionate to the increase in new development. META (Facebook/Instagram) is building a new facility in Temple that is going to require many acre feet of water to cool their computer hardware. One of the larger grocers in Texas (HEB) has been buying farm land to expand their distribution center. Hey Jim, you should be seeing some new HEB's in your neck of the woods. We will eventually run out of water, and since this is an arid climate area with only 30 inches of rain/year, there is no other supply nearby. Wonder when the idiots in charge will stop counting their money to see the problem.
We need a state moratorium on selling cropland for development...but the only thing we hear are the crickets.
