I've had this tab open in my browser for about 3 months now and just after I got back from ISAP and the presentation on luminosity masks, i happened to see it - I still haven't read it but for anyone heading down that road, this may be a good starting off place until we get our hands on the pdf from Saturday. Luminosity masks may also be a solution to the Central Park image, Mark. I don't know though - not having ever used them. I agree with Rich - the second one looks darn near perfect to my eye.

I'm kicking myself for not taking more careful notes but I'm totally lost as to how Mike made his selections via Channels and was able to use a density/fuzzines slider to fine tune the selection.

I CTL+Click each channel and I get some differences in where the "ants" crawl but I'm not getting the kind of discreet selection with adjustability that he was showing.

I can use the Highlight, MidTone, Shadow selector under "Color Selection" but again, there's no slider to fine tune anything.

Anyone know what the magic middle step might be? I see references online to "CTL + SHFT + ~ (Tildé)" as one possible route but it doesn't seem to do anything more than just CTL + Click.

It is a puzzlement...

Or is that the secret to steady tracking with the big glass?

Y'all be safe out there...

While driving home tonight, the light turned green to cross a major street (six lanes) when I was still a block away. As I went through the intersection, I suddenly felt the need to look to my right... and I looked straight into the headlights of a guy running the red light and headed straight for me.

I have pretty quick reflexes and a lot of training in high-speed defensive driving, but I still could not think/react quickly enough to do anything about it. He missed us, but by less than a half-second and with no help from me.

It was not a fun experience. So just a reminder: any day could be your last, and someday sometime (hopefully in a long time) it will be. So be careful... and make sure you could tell St. Peter that you'd done the very best you could on this planet when that day comes.

St. Peter already knows. At any rate, EVERYBODY keep your eyes/ears about you and the shiny side up... when you're driving. Flying is another matter, but still...

A good reporter must always look for the details that give away the true story... so if you notice every detail - the whole left side of my face all the way to the hair is being pushed straight up due to an incredible micro-burst of wind pressure up there on the edge of the cliff. I had no conscious control over any of it... that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Glad you made it through the light, Rodolfo. There was a Michael Keaton - Glenn Close movie a number of years ago about a NY newspaper that opened with the line "In 24 hours, your whole world can change." and then the movie is all that happens in the next 24 hours. Good movie! I think though our world can change in a split second and everything can come crashing (literally and figuratively) down around you. The one thing all of us must take away from it though is this... St. Peter does not let us into the Pearly Gates based on what we did or how good we were or how many prayers we made or any of that. All of those things determine our reward in heaven - but not the access to it. Peter opens the gate based on one thing and one thing only and it is nothing that we do at all. Else Christ died for nothing.
I know -its complicated and difficult to work out - and there is no shame in misunderstanding this as too many churches of most denominations sometimes get off track and move away from the clear teaching of Scripture. St. Paul says it clearly enough in Ephesians "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast." Even the faith is not something we muster from inside us - but a gift that God gives us, so that it is entirely a work of God to bring any of us into His presence.
You were given a good deal of Divine providence and grace going through that light intact - enjoy His favor and respond in kind. He got you through for a reason. Its a good thing! May God continue to bless you.

Wow, just watching Le Mans and McNish's crash. Shows how dangerous the photogs jobs are at these races. It's always back in my mind when I'm standing behind the guard rail as cars zoom by. I just hope I never have to dodge something like that!!

Massive crash. Just seen the replay, a photographer hit the deck but I couldn't see anything hitting him so I think it was just avoiding action. Scary stuff.
