p.1 #1 · Looong paper for the HP9180?

Hello again - Do any of you know where I can buy 13" x 48"(or longer paper) for the HP 9180? I'm trying to print Panoramas. I would like to print on long paper to see how well large panoramas are recieved before making the plunge into a truly wide printer.

Or if you have a link to a cobbled up roll feeder for this printer.

The custom paper seems to let me configure 13" x 44" paper, but of course, I can't find out if it will actually print on it.

Any and all help/advice muchly appreciated

You can print to this length with the 9180, but a roll feed won't be the way you want to do this as there is no cutter. I cut long paper from rolls.

Thanks again Jon. But during the tech support call I mentioned in my previous post, I was told that the maximum size the 9180 would print is 13 x 19. I repeatedly asked why the custom paper size allowed 13 x 44 in paper to be selected, but in that hour and a call, the Indian guy, who I allowed to remotely access my computer, would not from the 13 x 19 size limitation.

Have you actually printed with 44 in paper? Could you tell me more about your expeiences, settings, gotchyas, etc?

I would very much like to try this to proof my panoramas before buying a 44" printer.

Thanks very much for your help again : )

Wow! I just read your profile! What a privelege it is to be talking to a highly rated and qualified author. Thanks for taking the time to help an aspiring newbie climbing such a steep learning curve. I am looking now, at your books and which ones I should buy(probably all of them) : )

I am having problems with Photoshop crashing while I'm trying to sharpen very large images. I don't know if I should do levels adjustment and brightness/contrast before or after sharpening, or even which programs to use for sharpening such large files(I have FM's sharpening plug-in which seems to work well), any suggestions? I just bought PTGui Pro, and it doesn't seem to break a sweat handling these files(although it does take some time to process them on this new state of the art computer I just had built.

Should I contact you through your e-mail, or continue on this forum so all can benefit from our discussion? I'm unsure of the protocols here.

Glad to help out.

Sharpening should be the last step in your workflow before printing and it depends on a number of things - the contents of the image, the size you're printing at, and the media you're printing on. Fred's sharpening plug-in is very good, as are the Photokit sharpeners.
Crashing shouldn't be happening though. In the other thread I suggested resetting the preferences file.

Photoshop does take a long time to process panorama images.

On where to post, I suggest here there are plenty of people here that can help out as well.

Yes, I've printed this long. You'll get better results by using Best mode rather than Max DPI. Part of the reason HP doesn't officially support it is a lack of media in these sizes. The tech support people usually have very little experience with a product - they normally just have a list of common problems and solutions to refer to.
