p.1 #1 · Re: #276: Ceiling Fan

Hi ya'll! It's been a hectic couple of weeks, but I wanted to at least get something up for
this WA before it's too late. Last week just got away from me.

I'm sorry I haven't been around to comment but I've been checking in whenever I've had a few minutes. I'll try to do better from now until Christmas.

C&C welcome, as always!

Philly

Hi Philly,

Nice to see you post this week. Have missed your thoughtful and kind responses. This is a great shot. I love the texture you have captured in the ceiling and the blur of the blades is great. Very nice work. Good luck this week.

Hi Philly!! Your shot is alive as well..!! I see you going for the rule of thirds, but I feel that this one could actually be pretty cool cropped down to just the fan and bringing it closer to us. You definitely got the motion of it very well....I like it.

Hi Philly,

Great shot, like it alot...the only question I have is why not crop it straight and put the fan in the middle? Perhaps thats the military man in me coming out..

Mark.

umm, didnt we both do spinning tops last time "motion" was the theme?

Hi Steve! In all honesty, I wasn't thinking about the 'rule of thirds' at all. I seldom do...I just go with what looks right to my eye. I chose that crop because I really liked the feeling of vertigo I get when I look at the lines of the ceiling tiles. I also wanted the placement to be more abstract.

I'm sure this isn't an image most are going to love, but I don't do grainy, edgy images usually, and I thought this one offered something different from me.

Thanks so much for your words of encouragement. I always appreciate your input!

Hi Mark! Yes we DID! It seems we do 'motion' at least every couple of months, and I almost gave up and didn't do anything.

I know what you mean about the crooked crop, but as I explained to Steve, I did that purposely to give the viewer a little veritgo.....as one gets when looking straight up into a spinning fan. Maybe it's a little too 'far out,' huh?

Oh well.....it's different and speaking strictly for me...I hope we don't have 'motion' again until 2009!

Thanks for the thoughtful input, my friend!

Welcome back Philly. I like the offset composition. I think those ceiling panels are better suited for this shot than a plain white background.

Best. Bill

I'm glad you liked the composition, as strange as it is. Much appreciation, my friend!

Philly,

I am just one of many who have noticed your absence the last couple of weeks. Your thoughtful comments are a big part of the forum. I am glad things are lighting up for you and you will have more time to comment and shoot. Me, I like this shot. You are right it is a little different for you and it all seems to work well. Good luck this week.

Karen

Your comments were missed by all! It is always a pleasure to see your work. The grain and ceiling texture sure work great together. I like the crop and askew lines! It does give you vertigo!

Hi Philly
Love the texture of the ceiling and the fact that the shot is not square on, seems to give it more interest and lead you in. The grainy feel looks great, i must learn the best way to do it.
Take care

I like the motion of the fan! I'm not sure if this may be improved with the tiles being parallel to the framing. Very nice.

Philly,
Great motion capture! And the texture does add a lot.
I would probably crop off the top quarter inch (to omit the one line that is in the top right corner.) Great entry!

Hi Philly,
I like this shot a lot. Lots of interesting textures to look at, It's very nice. They show up much better in the large image than in the thumb nail. The fan blades have a star like quality, quite appropriate for the season.
