I don't keep an external HD connected to my MBP all the time, so I use SuperDuper as my backup software and plug in the drive whenever I want to backup the primary disk. Best backup software I've ever seen.
Is SuperDuper considered to be one of the best solutions for syncing two disks, or folders on different disks? I'm soon going to try to have my iTunes and iPhoto libraries mirrored on an external drive connected to an Airport Extreme base station so another computer can access them. Also, can SuperDuper do this on such a drive networked via ethernet? (I didn't see anything on their webpage about this)
Retrospect Express doesn't appear to be the best solution for this, so if any of you have any input, I'd appreciate it!
AFAIK, Superduper only backs up whole drives. Chronosync will synchronize individual folders/directories, either local or over a network. I use it daily. It has a scripting function, allowing you to setup timed backups. It's a very good program.
Superduper will backup drives over a network. The method is explained in the Superduper documentation. The way it does this is to create a disk image and then copy the disk image to the network location. Superduper can perform a scheduled sync, but there is no way to edit the sync. If you want to make changes, you have to start over. Chronosync has none of that problem.

Yeah thats got good reviews all round but not yet 10.5 compatible.
I have been reading that alot of people are not entirely happy with Time Machine.
I've done maybe 1/2 dozen backups on both my Macs with Leopard (10.5.1) and SuperDuper. No issues that I've seen. Bear in mind that I just do a simple disk clone and don't use any of the advanced features that may/may not be available in my free version of SuperDuper.
