Yeah! The light was.. great I usually do more wide angle shots of the view, but I just liked the more narrow FOV for this one!

It's cold, dark and wet over here today so I thought I'd have a bit of fun doing some colourful abstract macros.

These are all taken with a 50mm SMC Takumar f/1.4 reversed on to the front of a 105mm SMC Takumar f/2.8. Camera is Canon 1D mark 2.

Hm, the Rokkor even works at smaller apertures than f2. I will try that. Nice light.

Beautiful shot. Have you been burning in by hand? The front left side of the haystack seems to lack contrast.

Indeed. By f4 it is quite possibly the sharpest lens I have ever owned.

Hi Richard,

I would appreciate any advice about how to process this shot. It has given me fits. Here is what I did. As you might guess this shot has a lot dynamic range. I shot this so that it was exposed to the right. Then I processed the sky and the rest of the shot differently. Bringing back the sky so that it looked as near as I could remember to what I actually saw, and bringing back exposure to the foreground. I then cloned out a distracting corn stalk in the lower left corner; darkened the right side of the corn stack by hand as I though it gave it a little more depth, and then sharpened it just a little using Fred's smart sharpen plug-in. Any suggestions about what I might have done better, would be greatly appreciated. I have seen that you are a master of post-processing and I am very much a novice.

Best wishes,

Steve

Hi Paul,

These shots are absolutely fantastic. The huge dream catcher is terrific. I love these shots and really wish I could have gone. The next time there is such a festival in Toronto, please send me a PM. I have gone to several Pow Wows, but have never been allowed to take pictures and I would really like to get shots from such an event.

Best wishes,

Steve

I love my cheap lenses more than any thing... Sears 55mm f1.4 (I have 3 different version of this lens... 2 Sears in M42 mount but different aperture mechanism and one in Rolleinar brand):

With ext tube (I think 12mm), @f8 (indoor... near window with natural light):

Thanks for the compliments and I will try to remember to let you know when the next one is. I took Friday off and went with my daughter on a school trip. In hindsight, I would have preferred to take her on my own. It was pretty crazy and short-lived as it was. One would learn much more and see much more with better planning and more time. She's 1/16th (from my side), so she was particularly interested in learning.
