okay guys, let's now see if we can bring this topic to another level !
from today on (1/1/8) new rules apply :
- everyone who has posted a picture here HAS to contribute at least ONE critic !
- you shall pic a picture of this topic that you really really like, not because it is the best but because it works for you
- then you shall write a critic about it, explaining WHY, artistically and technically, YOU do LOVE it
please note
- obviously, don't pic you own work to critic !
- if you did not post a pic you can still contribute !
- you can still post your best of 2007 if you haven't
- you can post only ONE picture ! please edit your message if you did not respect that
okay now don't be shy, no lurking, let's do it ! the goal is not to congratulate each other but to have a better understanding of other people views on photography
I'm quite new here but I'm a long time lurker of the gear forum and reviews. The nature and wildlife forum has a "best of" topic that is really STUNNING so I hope you'll post your best here too.
I hope I don't break any rules by starting this topic. Please :
- post only ONE picture (I know it's hard !)
- describe why you like it ! most of the times it's something really personnal ...

This shot has been taken in the Tenjin Matsuri in Osaka, Japan this summer. The girl wears a yukata, a coton version of the kimono meant for the hot season, quite unformal. The mastri (festival) is big and boast a big firework. The shot has been made in the crowd, low light, with a 20D + 85 II @ 1.2. I hope you like it !
My favorite shot was taken in the Metrodome in Minneapolis. Tyler Roehl of NDSU (GO BISON!) makes an insane run (I believe 60+ yards) against the Minnesota Gophers for a touchdown. Incredible moment that I can never forget!
Don't know about "best" but this is one of my favorites...
1D 70-200 f2.8 just plucked this guy out of a sea of faces
one morning at the Growers Market downtown Albuquerque.
This is my favorite shot I took in 2007. Becuz I primarily shoot concerts. I look for the emaotion coming from the Artist. Being that I do shoot Rock -n- Roll shows, This one to me, SCREAMS ROCK-n-ROLL. I hope you all like it.
This is my favorite portrait shot of my son Kevin this year. I took it in our bedroom in the afternoon. There is a hanging plant in the window where the sun is shining through, which made for some interesting light and shadow effects. I also like his expression a lot.
I was going to post my "best", but decided what the heck - this one is really my favorite, despite its flaws and the fact that it's nothing more than a quick candid taken in poor conditions. Also, it was taken January 7th so I didn't realize at first it was from 2007 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/145/356708563_1bcc5f7e1f.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/penguinchris/356708563/in/set-72157601893074860/
The focus is on the wrong eye leaving most of her face soft, the white balance is incorrect and nearly impossible to recover (especially as it was shot in jpg), and she's dead in the center of the frame (cropping is possible, and a different version is on flickr - I'm always drawn back to the original though.) Yet it's possibly my favorite photo ever. As the original post says, this sort of thing is really personal and transcends technical flaws
"best", thats definately tough as I like so many images for so many reasons.
I just had this printed 20x30, so this is my current 'best'. I personally like it, but what ammused me most about this photo is that people dont believe that it is real, so I guess that is a compliment!
