Good luck Andrew. Hope this time you will a have perfect D-III and your success will give me a reason to take my first step to drop my CC at Calumet ( Though Henry's and others' will be steps 2,3, 4.. :P )

Thank you everyone..
Here is what the service ticket says,
"We have examined the product according to your request, and, it was found that the adjustment of the part was incorrect the auto focus did not operate properly. ADJUSTED FOCUS TO STANDARD, CLEAN CMOS, CL/CK ALL FUNCTIONS." (Interesting grammar).
Just took a few snap shots a second ago.. about to review now. Glad I received it today... son has a outdoor soccer game tomorrow at 1:30 in the afternoon. Provided it does not rain, I should be able to give it a good test. (more interesting grammar...)

Ok..
Initial findings.. Seems to still front focus a little with my 300. However, the part that is in focus is SHARP. This is a huge improvement and should be able to be micro adjusted. I shot several images with AI Servo and One Shot at 300mm F2.8 1/1000-1/8000th (all were handheld). I have guests over and didn't have time to pull out tripod and do a serious test. They are actually downstairs waiting on me to post. !
The resulting images are not perfect...but FAR better than they were. I semi-expect that a Micro Adjustment may in fact do the trick.
I had the luck of a helicopter fly right over my house while I was out shooting as well as a visiting Peacock.
Notice on the Peacock I focused on his belly...yet the shingles on the roof a foot or so in front of him are tack sharp. I took several and they all seemed similar. I realize this is a very complicated scene with pitch, lines, contrast, etc... Figured it would be an excellent test..
The helicopter shots were from a sequence of about 10... Semi-soft... But sharpen up decently.
These are out of lightroom with no sharpening applied. 100% crops are included on some.

That would be a neighbors roof...
We have about 10 of them in our neighborhood. My kids feed them cat food by hand. They are very tame... but like to look in peoples windows.
BTW: I am NOT in the country....My neighborhood used to be a tree farm... now a large community neighborhood with lots of trees, paths and parks...(rare in my area).

Exact thing happened to my new Blue Dot; never happened with the old 'non-focusing' unit, which I always got 2500+ per charge. Haven't used the new one enough to drain it, but at least I haven't found it dead-in-the-bag since that first time. I still wonder if I accidentally pressed the 'Set' button and initiated Live View until it died...

Exactly my experience with my brand new out-of-the box fw1.1.3 BD. Have heard others have similar battery problems around the boards too.
Haven't sent it in yet as i'm slowly getting over the 5D and loving the MKIII more and more.
Are you guys positive you didn't get a 1D Mk I by mistake?

Allen of the famous Allen's Camera, (located north of Philly and a truly great camera store), was kind enough to lend me his demo 1dMkIII for the weekend to test against mine. The snow is beginning to fall and its getting dark but here are the initial results. All are shot from the same location within minutes of each other, totally overcast (no change in lighting), cable release. Just unmounted the camera from a tripod mounted 300L F4. Focus point is the same for all - right at the intersection of the two signs.
My camera after three trips into Canon plus a lot of time micro-adjusting to get the best possible result. This is the best that this combo will do short of going back to Canon for a fourth try.
I am going to have to play with the micro-adjust with Allen's when using zooms over the weekend as the 20D outperformed both when using a 24-105 and 70-200. I've been trying to adjust mine and as I noted earlier the results are appalling.

Henry, swap Allen's for yours and you should be OK.
I've been reading these threads these past 6 months. Got me a 1D3 in December right after "the fix" was announced. Even though I often frown my eyebrows looking at the results after a shoot (always when using my 24-70L, never with any other lens) I figure I have to have bought one of the lucky ones. Still, it's kind of uncomforting knowing there are a lot of problems even with the fixed camera's. Always makes you wonder: was it me or the cam. That in itself sucks...

I did a +10 micro adjustment and went out and shot some of my 1yr old daughter running around...as well as my wife pulling her in a cart (not posted to protect the innocent...ME).
Looks like I may have a winner.. Not going to jinx myself though..more testing to come.
The one thing that I am most pleased with is the uniform sharpness now. From one side of frame to the other. Prior, it was always off more at one side than the other.
Here is a single example (1 full, then 3 100% crops across the frame).
Mk3, 300L F2.8 IS, F 2.8, 1/640th, ISO 200 hand held.
