I have processed 1000’s of 30D and 5D RAW files using PhotoShop Elements for the MAC. Today, for the very first time, I used my new 40D to shoot RAW photos at a wrestling meet. It has resulted in major issues. Let me explain.
Came home, transferred the photos to my MAC. Opened up the folder with Bridges CS3. Double clicked on the photo which auto opens in Elements 4.0.1. Got a message that said it could not read this file type.
Closed Elements and initiated PhotoShop CS3 (which I use rarely). Got same message.
Off to the Adobe site to look for answers. Find there is new version ACR 4.3.1. Download. Following the instructions, I go to my root library, find Adobe plug ins folder. But I have 2 folders – a CS2 and a CS3. In the CS2, I have ACR 3.7. In CS3, I have ACR 4.3. Replace both with ACR 4.3.
Restart. Open Bridges, click on photo to load Elements. Hey! The RAW editor opens – and it’s a much more advanced than my old RAW editor! Adjust exposure. Click Done and Elements loads.
But nearly 50% of my filters are disabled. Plus, I can’t save my final product as JPEG. (Options include PhotoShop File, a couple of RAW formats, TIFF).
Quit Elements, try same thing in CS3. RAW editor works great, filters gone, can’t save as JPEG.
I am really perplexed. Most of my photos go off to the local HS and they need JPEG. Any one have any suggestions on what I did (or did not do)?
