p.1 #1 · Reichman and Nikon?

Per his site, Michael Reichman has purchased a new D300. It is a bit amazing that Nikon has been able to shake up the photography world with a camera that "only" sports 12 megapixels. I really am looking forward to seeing what it can do in the real world. What makes me nervous is thinking about what else Nikon may have up it's sleeve for 2008. Nikon you rock !

Reichman buying a D300 constitutes a "shake up"? BFD. I think you're assigning him almost as much significance as he does himself.

It is my understanding, I could be wrong, that he mainly uses a D70s and that the 18-70 has been one of his favorite lenses.
Like many, he felt the urge to "update" and went with the D300, a great choice from what I have seen and heard.
A camera with "only 12 megapixels" is a hell of a camera if those pixels perform. Look at the D2H with only 4 megapixels. It is a very capable camera.
Do not expect that the D300 is going to make a photographer better. If someone was lacking before I assure you not much is going to change with the new camera. Technology helps but it does not take pictures.

I don't understand this "only 12 MP" thing. Now that there is one DSLR (the EOS1Ds Mark III) that has more than 12 MP, everyone claims that it's on the skimpy side.

The EOS 1dsII also had more than 12 megapixels (16 MP). Most professional landscape photographers are clamoring for more (for better or worse). Even Thom who's actually pretty moderate in his views...

If you are referring to Michael R. here then i think the clue is in the first sentence of his article ....."Regular readers know that I shoot with Canon 35mm digital equipment. ......"

Hey William

I think you may have Michael confused with Rockwell

Interesting indeed. He has often been accused of living in a "Canon Bubble". A bit unfair, since he also uses an M8 and various MF cameras, but as he explains in his article, he looks upon the recently launched Nikons as a big change. It's easy to agree.

Here is the link John http://www.luminous-landscape.com/whatsnew/
the Only 12 megapixels was tongue in cheek as we all know that 12 is plenty. And no, Michael shooting Nikon is not what constitutes the shake up, he is just one guy. William, I fully agree with you that it is the person tripping the shutter who really makes the difference.
