p.1 #1 · 360 degree VR product shots

I've a client who wants to try some 360 degree shots of their products. I've never done it before. I'll shoot a bunch of views on a turntable type of base, but what about software? Is there anything in Photoshop or in the Mac OSX or do I need some special VR software? Do these become Quicktime's, HTML's, GIF's etc? Any help is much appreciated.

you need special software to do these and the normal output is a Quicktime VR. the software isn't cheap and neither are precision turntables for larger objects. check out www.kaidan.com for the probably the largest hardware manufacturer for their software bundles.

John:

I do this for a number of clients. I shoot on an automated stepping platter and then handle the web based display via Javascript.

Here is an example:

And another:

Click on + More Views (popup window) and then mouse over views.

We experimented with all types of clients, FLASH, VR, QTVR etc., and found the cleanest and fastest for development and performance was Javascript.

What it needs to look like is like the products shots on this Canon web site:

http://tinyurl.com/26zaoq

Click on the "Product Tour" tab, then the "Product 360 View"

So the software I need to assemble all these shots is Apple QuickTime? The Canon example doesn't launch the QuickTime window, it all works using just my web browser.

John:

The easiest would be to shoot on the platter like mine and then drop the images in to a Winkflash template. Takes only seconds to drop the images and render the FLW.
