I got a lot of great feedback on the rock formation composition I did that looks like something from Easter Island. Scott Stoness said he'd like to see it re-composed with the rocks to the right and the dull sky out of the picture. So with Scott's suggestion in mind I re-shot that composition tonight. I really like this new shot much better than the original.
Canon 1DSII, 16-35 f/2.8L II lens, FL=32mm, ISO 100, Av f/14, Tv 10 seconds. MLU, tripod but no cable release this time (left the darn thing in the car).
Very small curves adjustment for contrast and 300, 1, 0 USM. That's it.
I would suggest selecting the rocks, go to color balance hit highlights and slid to the Blue/Yellow to the yellow side. This way the rocks will look more natural and the water will keep its blue.

I went ahead and made the changes I spoke of, I hope you don't mind if so I will remove.

I don't mind at all. I'm working hard and taking in all comments and I'm experimenting in order to hone my craft. Landscapes are incredibly difficult to get right.
The real color of those rocks is somewhere between what I snapped and your tweaks. They aren't quite as blue or as brown as the two pictures. I'm going to drive by today and look at them again and then go to the raw file and get the color accurate and upload it here again. Too busy yesterday to do it - I have this pesky day job that keeps getting in the way
