It seems quite a few people here have received blue dot boxes though I can recall a few who say it is no better but very few people who have said it is better or have even said anything!

I can imagine as soon as RGs positive results are published this place will be full of 'yippee' the blue dot 1D3 I bought a month earlier is working!

On a positive note, I have had confirmation my replacement 1D3 will arrive next week! Only 7 months with 2 x 1D3 bodies with problems then!

I'm so glad I'm always a late adopter. I was worried about the 1D III even before it was on sale. Still can't decide if I'll get one even they are fixed. I might get the 5D II and wait for the 1D IV which if rumours are true could be out in less than a year?

lol Yes it seems strangely quiet. I would guess nobody wants to post the blue dot cameras are "working great!", for fear RG will report they still don't work right. Or vice versa.

With Rob's last notice including the photo and caption "Sharpen Up", it leads me to believe they're working fine. The latest firmware probably finished the job after the corrected sub-mirror assembly was in place.

Should see the results today (Friday).

Then I don't see the point in all this useless discussion about 1D3 AF when few people are prepared to stand up and express their opinion!

I have, and will... mine worked the day I got it, and it still works. But of course no one wants to hear that. Apparently I should have bought a lottery ticket on the way home from the dealer that day too...

Alistair, my AF works fine in Seattle weather and it eventually will get the fix. I just downloaded the firmware update. I hope it doesn't change things for the worse. Called Canon techies and got on the list.

Looks like Rob Galbraith's update has been delayed again. It's next week now.

It now seems certain that the "fix" dosen't work. If RG is wrong on this his reputation is shot so he is giving Canon every opportunity to get the fix right. He would be foolish to risk his reputation on anything short of the compete and unbiased report that we all expect.

Just my two cents of course but I am no longer optomistic.

Why is it certain? I really doubt giving Canon another week is going to change whether it works or not. Look how long it took to identify the problem and do a fix. Another week isn't going to matter. Even if the fix works, people are going to "demand" proof otherwise they will claim that RG sold out to Canon. I have no idea what the delay is, but it's clear he will likely have to write something pretty extensive. Maybe it's just taking time.

Why would it be certain? I have a BD that I exchanged at a B&M store here in Seattle and so far it works fine.

I have stated before and others have as well, that the blue dot that I recieved works great, no AF issues at al, I did have an SD problem with mine, but the latest firmware update took care of that. BTW mine is outside(higher) then the effected range that canon listed.

Managing a large newspaper photo staff of 17 with 7 Canon Mark III shooters. Number of cameras affected by autofocus issues: seven out of seven. First sub-mirror repair arrived back this morning from Canon....camera shutter now defective and sending back once again to Canon. Number of Nikon D3's - eight (still budgeting for the rest next year). Number of problems: none. This case is fast closing for me. The Canon cameras have each spent a significant time in repair already. As an administrator, Nikon service and initial build quality have already outperformed their Canon counterparts in our photo department. My most disheartening sight this year were the number of Canon Mark III's on photographers' shoulders holding a lens while their Mark II's just sang along getting the images we need. We will not be buying any Mark III's for the time being. In fact, the Mark II's are coming back out of the cupboard.

I hearby appoint Rob Galbraith the religious guru of canon trouble. Funny thing, imo, Rob has been mentioned furiously here in FM daily and the guy has never once offered an opinion, or visited the forum. Is this guru too good for FM?

Don't know if he is too big for FM. Is anyone from Canon Leadership a member here ? I saw Chuck Westfall registering and making a few posts (though not on this controversy) over at NSN. Not sure if he is already a member here.
