These photos of the Sabyinyo group of mountain gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park of Rwanda show the mid-day activities of some wonderfully laid-back gorillas, all under the watchful gaze of the silverback male (images posted previously at http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/587466). The baby in particular was a little charmer. These were shot either with a 1DmkIII + 400 DO IS lens or 1DmkIIN + 70-200 zoom, both handheld. Comments and critique are welcome!

#7 and #8 are beauts but all shots nail character, 1,2 and 8 nail composition. Super shooting for sure

Terrific shots, Susan. Number 2 is my favorite of this set. Adorable pose and neat to have the green vegetation stiking out of his mouth. Interesting behaviors in others - licking water from fur. Always learn something new from you!

You mention a MarkII and a MarkIIn - did you not take the MarkIII? Maybe your husband was using that one??

Great shots.

I must commend you on keeping a cool head and making careful well controlled use of Canon's latest high ISO possibilities, allowing you the flexibility of going hand held. Can see from the EXIF that you have pushed hard on the high ISO capability of the MkIII and extracted excellent DOF and high shutter speeds. Wow that No 8 is at ISO 2500 - great stuff indeed! These may turn out to be some of the best Gorilla portraits taken in the wild yet.

Susan these are wonderful,

I love the goofey baby shot, thanks for sharing, this must have been quite the adventure for you to witness these guys in the wild.
Being in the wild with animals is a spiritual experience for me, I'm sure that you can relate, thanks so much for sharing these.

Susan, these are terrific. You certainly made the best of your trip. All are outstanding but the expressions on the faces in image #2, #6, and #7 are priceless!!! If you post a series of this trip on your website, let me know I'd very much like to view.
