It is very common in Germany (and probably in other countries in Europe I should think, but I don't really know). It's a peeler that allows you to not waste too much of whatever you peel. What a surprise that this has turned out to be a guessing-game. No, it's not a green apple (no apple at all) Thanks for commenting! These peelers are great by the way (although only for right-handed people). You can hold them just like a small knife. Very handy. Maybe I should start exporting them to the US. Here's what ours look like, (at least the kind I use, my mother uses, and her mother used.) The rust is what happens when one uses the electric dishwasher. I try to remember to hand dry mine but at least the blade stays clean. (I do wish they'd improve the handles.) I like all the cut lines on the board as result of the peeler’s sharp edge, but would like to see a different composition where we could see more of that instrument that’s unfamiliar to me too. I prefer mine Actually I got it from my mum (she's got a newer one instead). Don't know about my grandma though so you win No pear. Sorry. I think the confusion comes from the fact that one wouldn't actually peel this fruit. John, To be honest, the cut lines are from knife use.
