Hi all, just returned from a fantastic trip to Rwanda and Tanzania, with our amazing guide Tony Reumerman (whom I recommend with over-the-top enthusiasm for anyone planning a photographic safari!!). I'll be posting lots of shots over the coming weeks, starting with these images of a very large silverback mountain gorilla in Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park. This big fellow has been named "Guhonda" by the researchers, and he's the top guy of the Sabyinyo group, which also consists of several females, juveniles, and an adorable baby (coming soon in future posts!). Comments and critique are welcome, as always!!

Excellent Susan! The exposures are so good on the black/grey fur. I love the skin detail in the chest too. # 2 you can see the wrinkles and veins in there. Awesome work. The expressions are tops too.

Susan,
I am so glad you had such a good encounter with the Sabinyo Group -- did they come outside the wall for you? I had heard that they often do that.
Your pictures of Guhonda are superb, I loved seeing them. Congratulations!

I'm not sure how anything could get much better, Sue. You have clearly chosen the most emotive and the most natural at the same time. Every one of these shots, excepting the first, keep you out of the forum. You present these animals in a very natural way. I like the first because of the others. You have provided a good balance, even though not quite balanced. I'm glad that you chose the natural over the other for the majority. Beautiful presentation!
