The last time I posted a bird here was in the spring or something.. they've just been too scarce, or my time has, or some combination. Anyways, my screech owl friend came back to take up residence in a nearby hole... so here he is in all his B&W glory, hope you like him! Hopefully I'll find some more birds soon, otherwise you might just get to see more of him (hopefully he'll be a little more animated in the future
Canon 20D, 500L f/4 IS + two 1.4x teleconverters and 25mm extension tube. Manual focused (it was dark), iso 1600, 1/10 sec. Sidekick + Ball head locked IS off, MLU.
Very, very nice image - especially given the shooting circumstance! This looks like a Western Screech Owl. I've put up a box to try to attract one of these guys to my place. They are very, very cool birds (but then all owls are cool birds).

Thanks! More likely an Eastern Screech Owl - since I'm in new york, but they're pretty much the same thing They are fun little birds, hope you get one to come!
