Yes, you did provide useful input into the decision. I now have 3 ZF lenses (50, 35, 25), but haven't been able to use them much yet. I'm still recovering from that broken collar bone I got when that stupid car hit me while I was cycling 3 weeks ago. I figure I'll be able to do more and get out more in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, maybe I'll get that ZF - C/Y 50mm f1.4 Planar comparison together. Informally speaking from what I've seen from outside of strict side-by-side comparison, I don't see a lot of differences, except perhaps with the bokeh of the ZF being subjectively a touch nicer. The main advantage of the ZF may be that it is better positioned for a possible FF (I mean "FX") Nikon purchase. More later.

Ah, collar bones. They aren't much fun to break. Did it 3 times, myself. Fell off a bunkbed, moped accident (this is bad on so many levels), and hockey, of course.

I hope you feel better.

Thanks for the samples, Sam. I'll try to get time to post some sample from my two Rokkors (45/2 & 58/1.2) soon.

This is not a very popular lens, so I thought you might be interested to see the results...It's Voigtlander Apo Lanthar 90/3.5 for M42 mount. Both photos were taken at maximum aperture, since at that time I did not have an appropriate M42-EOS adapter (allowing stopping down the aperture of this lens which is only automatic). Besides, the adapter did not have AF confirmation which made focussing quite difficult.

Unlike famous and presented here Voigtlander Apo Lanthar 125/2.5, it is not a typical macro lens, although due to close focussing distance of 0.5 m and 3.5 magnification it can also be used for some macro shots . I must test it also with extension rings.

It's great to see so many new contributors to this re-started thread, really refreshing to see such a range different styles and views on the world.

Contax 50mm f1.7 on Canon 5D, 1/50th @ ISO 800, can't remember f stop but probably f5.6.

Wee-

Very nice. Many of the images also provide a good demonstration of the exceptional flare resistance of the Zeiss N 24-85m lens.

Wee, great work! Lovely shots of Cambodia. I went there a few months ago with my 5D and N24-85, but my pictures were nowhere near as good as yours. Were you on a photography trip?

I was just there with my wife on a 4 days trip. We were on our own and had a tut-tut driver to drive us around.
The guesthouse, Peace of Angkor, we stayed does organise photo trips but the price is out of our budget.

That 90 Lanthar looks very nice indeed.

Al - Have you shot the 180/4 Voigtander as well?

Glad that you like the pics. No, I haven't had 180/4. However, 90mm is not the only lens of Cosina Voigtlander SL series that I have. The other one is Color Heliar 75/2.5 also for M42 mount, and also a very nice piece of glass.
Some time ago I saw some pictures taken with Leica M version of Color Heliar, and I was enchanted by the beauty of it. So, when I saw an auction on our local auction site called Allegro, I could not resist. But as it happened the seller had also for sale Apo Lanthar 90mm and Voiglander Ultron 40/2.0. I knew that it was a unique occasion since those lenses have been discontinued. Ultron was too long as an all-around lens for a crop camera (30D). Since I like portrait lens the most, I bought both, i.e. 90mm and 75mm. I thought I would try both of them and keep the one which is better. But I like them both and for the time being don't want to part with any of them

Here are 2 more shots from the same session, so both wide open. I will later post also some shots from color heliar.
