Why do you say this, Chris?

The 35-70 is my main night architectural photography lens, and its ability to tame extreme point sources of bright lights (lamp posts, streetlights, etc.) is among the best of the lenses I've used. Beats the Leica 35-70/4 easily.

Here's an example. It doesn't get any better (or rather worse) than this. I'm about 10m from that lamp post.

Great lighting and flare control in this shot. I must get myself one of those little 35-70's to pair up with big brother 28-85. [Andy heads off to KEH with battered wallet in hand]
