Stunning Socrate.
I've been solidly on the fense about possibly "upgrading" to a 40D from my 30D instead of trying to find a used MKIIn. Ive seen soo many post with mixed results from the 40D and nothing like this so far, you may have just made my mind.
.
Very well done.
Hi Wulff. Thanks for your comments. My original plan was to get a MKIIN, or a MkIII, until this friend of mine called me asking if I wanted to try a new 40D.
I believe I'll wait to get a MkIII in a year or so. So far I'm enjoying the 40D.

Great series, Socrate, between yours and Greg's posts I believe that the sales of the 40D will probably go up a few hundred percentage points for the wildlife crowd.
Thanks, Norm. I'm really appreciating the great job you're doing with the MkIII. I whish I had more time to do some testing with the 40D.

Never seen better hummers, Socrate. I'm curious about the exposure details - I'm guessing you're shooting the hummers at f8, they sure don't look wide open - what ISO? From what I've seen so far the 40D looks like a winner - especially in your hands -
Thanks David. I always appreciate your thoughtfull comments.

Wow, these are stunning images, fabulous quality. Pease tell me, are you shooting RAW and converting and if so which RAW converter did you use?
Hi Mohammed. These are Jpeg. I haven't tried the RAW format yet.

Socrate, I think any camera body in your hands will show off. Beautiful, beautiful series. But the butterflies, #3 and 5 are incredible.
Thank you, Maggie. I appreciate your kind words.

wow, such a great series, all the hummers look great and #5 of the butterfly is exceptional in regards to composition, exposure and color.
I'm hoping to upgrade in the near future, I use a Rebel XT and though it was a good starting camera I find the focusing rather slow especially for birds. The 40D sounds like a great choice for me, but I'll have to keep saving
Thanks, emozon. I hope you'll get your new camera soon.

Finally some pics that would make me buy this camera, good Job Socrate . I new it was just a matter of time before someone I knew and trusted posted some pics out of that camera that I feel are a true test of what it can do. Thanks

Congrats on the 40D Socrate! You are really making it sing. The hummers in flight are great. I like them with the wings in motion like that. I captures the bird better. Love the rest as well - very sharp, great colors and bgs.

It is amazing with a bird this fast how well your 40D has captured focus. When you go back & compare your 30D at same range & lens, is there a significant difference? I imagine you are using AI-Servo?
Hi OutsideShooter. The hummer shots are taking when the birds are hovering, and yes I did use AI-servo. I get more keepers with the 40D, and sharper detail compared to the 30D.

Thank you very much Susan. The 40D has been a great surprise to me, and wasn't planning to get one. I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer for the MkIII.
