p.1 #1 · 1DMKI- who still uses

So who is still using this camera. I use mine at work sometimes. Namely when my MKII was at canon for 3 months before they decided it was stuffed (Canon Oz is hopeless!)
I like it. It has a blue colour cast and chews batteries like nothing else. But damn it is sharp (shaper than MKII) and the auto focus is spot on.

I still have a couple of them and don't hesitate to use them - unless I'm needing higher ISO than 1000 - then I'm more partial to my 2N.

With over 650,000 shutters through each of them, they're not going to get much on the used market, but I certainly use them enough to make them well worth the space in my bag.

Hammy.

I do
I see this blue color cast only when shooting in the shadows or when it's all clouded. Easy to adjust in PS.

I wrote this a while ago in a thread:

I absolutely love my 1Dino and still use it regularly. As mentioned above, it is sharp as a tack and the AF is amazing. I find that my files from the 1D need less PP than those from my mkII.

I have one too. In fact, it is the only 1D series I have and I love it. I use it for casual shooting, that is when I am covering some events for fun. 90% of the time, I use it with a 50mm F/1.8.

I Have the 1Dinosaurus and I use it for sport, action and I like much the AF, burst, color . I just dislike weight and LCD, but I'm proud of my 1D, I'll change it only for a 1D mk II, maybe.
This is one of the last photo I took this week, first time wit the 1D and 100-400 L with tamron 1.4X MC4 at the kart circuit; you think it's ok?

I love the 1D. The images look fantastic, they're unbelievably sharp, and it works great for event photography. The 1/500th is certainly nice, and the small file size is such a huge bonus. Images zip through the computer compared to 8-10mp images.

Most of what I do is just web-sized work and verrrry rarely some 4x6 prints. The 4mp is not a limitation whatsoever. Even at 100%, the images look great. I fully recommend the body.

In fact, I backed down from a 1D2 to a 1D after the 1D2 had some water damage and much to my surprise, I'm really happy I made the change! Go figure...

I have one and use it alot. I bought it last year. It looks like it has been through a battle field. I have no idea how many actuations and I don't really care. It always works, yes it is a gas hog, so I carry an extra battery. If it breaks, I will get it fixed (if possible) and keep using it. It is an amazing camera.

If you are considering buying one, it is hard to beat the value for the money.

I bought one a few weeks ago as a backup to my 20d. I find that I use it more than the 20d already When I need more resolution than the 4mpix the 1d delivers, or when I need a small camerabody I use my 20d.
I like the build, speed, autofocus and integrated grip over the 20d and i'm impressed with the quality of the files.

Bought it with 50k shutter actuations and with a lot of scratches and almost no black paint on the corners of the body... for 250 euro's! Just had to buy the thing and am glad I did

You will not be disappointed with 1D.

Autofocus work extremely well also with 2x at f.8.

here an example at f10, ISO 320. canon 300/4L+2x (I version)

I just picked up a 1D but notice my whites blow out more so than on my 10D. Only shoot RAW (TIF).
Anyone care to share their custom functions?
Still, I am thinking about getting another one soon.

I have no special settings in my custom functions. It could be the metering on the 1D is a bit different from the 10D. Also note that, because of the CCD, the 1D is better at keeping highlights (whereas CMOS sensors are better at retaining shadows). Most times you can save a lot from the highlights in PP, even if they look overblown at first.

Please share an image so we can see what you mean.

I keep wanting something lighter like a **D, but when i look at the photos from my 1D Im nearly always satisfied. I never hesitate shooting 300 photos off and working on them briefly in DPP but if they were larger files I would imagine I wouldnt take so many photos.

I used it until recently (sold it 2 months ago)... got annoyed by the .TIF files that screw up a bit of my workflow... also for the fact that it doesn't auto rotate vertical shots. But that's just PP... the results are still fantastic for must uses. Sharper than anything I've shot with. And very film-like, may I add.

I use one, and am very happy with it when there's enough light. Actually, I can't really imagine a better body for shooting sports with artificial light, because it has an electronic shutter and can sync up to 1/2000th if you need it to. Great autofocus too.

The JPG's look great, I use parameter set 2 and color mode 3. I don't really like shooting RAW because neither the Windows thumbnailer or Photo Mechanic can browse them properly, so reviewing and editing is a pain. Plus, when I process them in ACR, the reds always look a little off, and I never like the overall color rendition. If I can fix it by shooting an easier to deal with format, that also gives me more space on the card and unloads the buffer faster, I will...

Bought a pristine 1D (under 2k actuations) about a year ago as my first (and still only) DSLR, and absolutely love this camera. Even though I'm not an advanced photographer and it was a steep curve learning how to use it, I consistently get really good images with it. Coming from Panasonic/Leica digicams (terrible at high ISO), I find the noise at 1600 pretty decent if exposed properly. This camera is really sharp and focusing speed is like nothing I ever experienced. There are times when I wished I had something less heavy and bulky, but then I see the images coming out of this camera and I'm a very happy with the beast.

I still use mine, and ONLY have the 1D, despite owning a few larger file II series.

The straight out of the camera quality of this dinosaur is unreal. I post process way less with files out of my 1D.

The autofocus is lightning fast. Use it for my son's soccer games, and get way many keepers than with a 20D I used to have.

The file size is such a plus, I can't over-emphasize this. Working with files is quicker, less storage space needed, etc. Just dont expect to crop a whole lot.

The noise issue is over-rated. Higher iso looks like high quality film if exposed near properly. A very nice look.

I think this camera is one of, if not THE BEST bargain in digital cameras today. Get one a try it out for yourself. If you don't like it, turn around and sell it, you should be able to break close to even with little loss if you don't like it.
