Most of my prints are 16x24, 20x30 or 24x36. I know a 6mp camera can do a 24x36 but it doesn't do it at the quality that I demand and need. I'm hoping the 1D mkIII can. it would fill a huge hole in my bag and give me a sore back at the end of the day

XsigmaSD, would you mind sharing a 100% crop (unprocessed) of one of the high-ISO shots? I'm very interested in the amount of noise, as these pictures look great. Thanks in advance.

No Problem. If I did this right, this is a 100% crop.
Workflow: 6400 ISO RAW > Light Room > JPG > Photoshop (for crop only, NO NR!)

Showing some .jpg artifacts that don't show up before going to SmugMug.
Yea, its that good!

Wow, some fantastic images in this thread. I'll add a few of my most recent photos from the Mark III. Lenses were 400 f5.6 and 300 f2.8

Not sure why this showed up twice. I deleted one and they both disappeared. Then posted one again. Strange.

I've only had the opportunity to fart around with the camera at a party this weekend, but the ISO 6400 results are pretty stunning, even with Lightroom which typically has a hard time Color Noise reducing MKII photos pushed up to 6400...

Somewhere along the line you got some chroma noise reduction in there, otherwise that's not a Canon CMOS sensor.

I'd say the same thing Jeff, If I didn't see it for myself. Took the RAW over to my local camera shop/hangout... Same reaction. But then, I guess my III is special, I've had no problems with focus either! :P The image was shot one stop over and pulled in lightRoom.

Seriously, I'll post the RAW if interested.

This link is the actual JPG upload to SmugMug that has the EXIF still in it... sorry about the other link, forgot they strip it on the images they downsize.

Gary, obviously the focus on your camera sucks. Would send that baby right to Canon to get it fixed.

The EXIF shows that Color Noise Reduction was set to 25, PS's default setting.

Good Catch Jeff! Honest mistake, I'm new to LR, didn't realize they add that little 25% by default.

Heres a new link, NR and sharpening at 0 now.
Still... not bad...

Considering most everything I process from any of my cameras uses some ACR/LR manipulation, I'd still consider this very impressive in comparison to other 1D series bodies at similar settings.

That looks more like the Canon CMOS we've come to know and love! It is amazing that the camera does so well at 6400, looks like my old 1Ds at 800...

Not a doubt!
...or my SD-10 at 200..

I'm having problems getting to my FTP server from home tonight, I'll put the RAW up tomorrow from the studio if anyone is interested.

Great, just great. I convince myself I need to drop a bunch of coin on a new body and now I have Shane proving that I need a 400 2.8 as well. Oh, poor me, when will it end?

Shane,

The moon shot is really great......you should try your 1D Mrk II N too, so we can see the differences

I am blown away by a few shots in this string, and I hope that the AF issue is one day buried forever because some of you are sure posting some masterpieces.
Gary, that "Flyer" grabbing the hit is unbelievable, right down to the turf coming up from behind.
Hrow, all I can say is there is much more going on in your shots than "camera" ability. Those shots are amazing, but, the camera definitely seems to help
XsigmaSD, your 6400 ISO samples clearly demonstrate the value and usefulness of that ridiculously high setting
Shane, your night shots are striking
Jeff, your "Swingin Around" is an amazing action shot
EMC2, that landscape shot, even if post processed, is purely amazing in color and saturation, as well as composition
Nick, that bike shot is unbelievable for all reason stated, especially the eyeballs of the rider
There is another shot of a "Lady in Red" taken with the camera that simply blew me away, but it wasn't in this string. Can't recall exactly where, but if any of you saw it you'll remember it.

Keep them coming, I'm a poor man but if I keep seeing stuff like this I'll have no options left but to join the Mark III club...after Canon fixes the glitches, that is

Great stuff people, and, Bonnie, I've already seen enough good stuff from you in the area of wildlife

All of the shots in this string are excellent but the ones above are the ones that blew my mind
