p.4 #1 · New Nikons Released (D300, D3, Five Lenses)

I really couldnt even say After hands on its hard to not want to switch but I couldn't even sell all my gear and afford the D3. If I could swap all my gear for D3 and the 24-70mm its hard not to say yes.

I thought just a week ago canon fans were saying the 1dIII put the final nail in the nikon coffin.

Yes but there still not free and while a good discount it's certainly not 50% off or anything near of.

I needed a backup for my D80... now I found a backup for my upcoming D300!

Wonderful times!

Sweetness!! I just bought my D200, proving again that I am totally unable to time upgrades .

Good luck getting these when they come out. I have a funny feeling that these will be, justifiably, backordered for a while.

I gotta say kudos to Nikon. They really managed to raise the bar in the marketplace and caught Canon resting on their laurels, doling out measly incremental updates rather than upgrades.

What really floors me is that virtually none of the fantastic features of the new Nikon bodies are revolutionary in terms of creating new technologies. At THIS point, once you go full frame, it's all about improving the implementatiton and the features that can leverage it. Canon dumbing down its version of Auto ISO, is a perfect example of one of many software features I hope Nikon has kicked Canon in the a** with when it comes to seeing whether or not Canon's NEXT offerings will represent the pinnacle of their advances or the minimum they feel they can get away with in their planned obsolescence curve.

One thing I DO find somewhat amusnig is the 300K shutter life. At the rate this technology is evolving and modes are superceded, I'd love to know exactly where the average shutter life is compared to the average ownership period.

Ah, but when you move to the next body, the camera has more useful life (and thus greater residual value) left in it, so you can sell it for a better price. Return on investment is greater.

Bring on the D300 high ISO tests. If it's even "very good" in that department, the D300 is the absolute STEAL of the DSLR world.

By the way, I'm not sure what I'm more floored by, the specs on these new cams, the price tag on the D300, or the Canon shooters saying nice things to us lowly Nikonites on this thread!
