I see a winner! Did you merge 2 images? I am ...... speechless. I like every detail. I have only one comment now that I have gathered myself. If the thief is a shadow he is wearing a blue shirt or it seems.

Robert, this is an intriguing image, which I like a lot. I guess the shadow is what remains of youth after the passage of time...? Nice!!

Clever idea and very well exposed. The only nit pick I have is that if the minute hand is approaching 20 after the hour, the hour hand should have been about 1/3 of the way between the 5 and 6. Just the same, a very cool shot.

Howard, thank you for your kind comments. I am pleased that you like this entry. Since the clock was hanging on a wall in an antiques store, with a price tag for more than I was willing to pay for a prop, I took the picture of the clock, then took a separate picture of the "old man" to create the shadow. The shirt does seem to have a slight blue cast to it for some reason.

It seems, Bob, that there is something always a little out of kilter with old clocks and old bodies.

Thanks for commenting.

Thanks, Bill. This goes beyond the norm for me, and I may have stepped over the line in terms of post processing. I searched the antiques shop several times over, looking for an old doll that I could put in the photograph in order to create the shadow. It seems that no one makes old dolls, i.e., dolls of old people. Who wants to play with a granny doll, huh? And I couldn't take the clock with me, so I came back with my photo of the clock, took a picture of an "old man" against a white background, and overlaid it onto the face of the clock. It was fun to experiment, actually.

I don't want to get into a lengthy debate here over the "ethics" of post processing. There are other forums for that, but ABC News posted a series of "doctored" magazine covers on their website recently. Interesting stuff. ABC News website

Perfect, Robert! Another finalist! I'm lucky my camera is out of town (see my post to ViperMike) so I don't need to try to compete with all these great shots sine none of my ideas even began to approach them.

Fond regards,

Endre

Endre, you can borrow a camera from us. We likely still have time to get it to you before the ultimate deadline.

I was without a camera for about three weeks, and had to borrow Jane's camera while mine was in the Canon Service Center. I had lost the display, and so I was literally shooting in the dark. They fixed the problem, gave it a good cleaning, and got it back to me good as new. I'm happy again.

BTW, when you have your camera in hand, you always seem to come up with ideas. Congratulations on your winning entry for Windows.

Best regards,
Robert

Hellp Robert,

What a beautiful capture! The projected shadow figure looks as aged as the antique clock face. The background color compliments the entire image. This is a lovely composition that is well executed.

Nick, the shadow figure is not quite as aged as the clock, but not too far behind. I am pleased to hear that you like it. I chose the background to complement the idea that the "old man" was faced with the reality that he has only a little bit of light at the end of a long life, and that darkness is closing in - something that we will all face at some point if we are lucky enough to live that long. Well, enough of that! I am starting to sound like "my momma." :worried:

Thank you for the kind words, my friend.

Philly, where in the world have you been? Running around looking for Howard Miller? Well, I see that you found him, and he is looking, ahem, strikingly good. Of course, I am speaking of your very good entry that you sneaked in at the last, ahem, minute. Some of Christian's habits are rubbing off on you.
