Contacted Beach Camera Sales and they said to get back with them in 2-10 days regarding pre-ordering the 40D. So I guess that is encouraging, maybe?
Al
Bob Atkins has some interesting stuff on his site, too.
Look at the name of the guy that created the entry, which appeared soon after the rabid discussion about the 40D entry's appearance. The 40D has had corroboration from many sources, the 7D has not. It is possible the 7D is real, but that public database by itself insn't proof enough.

i wish the 40d would come out so everyone would unload their 20ds on the buy and sell forum....
I doubt that the 20D would go down much at all. Maybe a few dollars. Right now you can get $600 or so and I don't expect that to change much. They're still a great camera no matter what is announced. I won't sell mine, at least for now.
Just a FYI... I was in Best Buy tonight, had them lookup the SKU number that was shown for the 40D, came right up, the guy who looked it up even scrolled over on the part of the display that showed the name and confirmed that it actually says 40D with 28-135mm IS lens... and confirmed the price of $1599 as well as the expected in stock date of September 2nd. So, if this is a scam, someone managed to get it in the entire BB computer system it seems. (no other specs were available on the screen)
Re: "The UPC Database clearly shows______" discussions...
That UPC database also shows a 70D as well as a 320D. It is important to note that anyone can enter these codes and descriptions. Without an actual matching product on the shelf, these numbers should be considered no more trustworthy as-is than politicians promising to lower your taxes or 1/2.7" sensors producing low noise at ISO 1600.
If the 40D and 28-135 is $1599 at Best Buy, and the 28-135 is selling for $584. We can assume that the 40D body only will be $1015. Just kidding. Actually, that is the price that Best Buy is currently selling the lens for, but others have it as low as $399. I would say body only will be MSRP of $1299.
B&H sells the 30D with that same lens for $1240, they sell the lens by itself for $400... so one might take that to mean the 30D should sell for $840... but at this moment in time they are asking $980 for the 30D body alone...
As far as I know, not even B&H is likely to discount the 40D much when it first goes on sale... I would not expect much more then $100 off the same kit as what BB is going to be selling during the first month or two of sales for that camera.
BTW, BB currently sells the 30D kit with that same lens at $1499, just $100 less then the price they show for that 40D kit. Based on all that, plus a little guessing... I'd expect the body only to be in the neighborhood of $1200 to $1300 at a place like B&H, in the early days of it being available.
Don't worry: as soon as it's out someone will start a "50D is for March" thread...
Hey, if the 40D is around the corner, then it shows that the 18'ish month productcycle is adhered to. A March intro (announcement in Feb) seems fair. March 2009 that is, of course
