Just look at the introduction date of the 30D. Then add, as a sort of predictor, the 18 month product cycle that we've seen before with consumer dSLRs to the mix. Where do you end up? August. Close enough to July, so it seems plausible.
Just how high of a frequency does ultra-ultrasonic use? Is the 40D going to be a special model for photographing bats, dolphins, etc.?
The guy told me that ultra-USM uses a combination of ultrasound and the magnetic field of the titanium casing to move the lens element to prevent front/back focus.
Transwarp-Drive®
The full name for Transwarp-Drive® is Selective Transwarp-Drive® (STD). Allows you to capture 65 RAW files per second.
Just for kicks, and in the name of rampant speculation..
If the 1D MK3 uses two Digic III chips to process 10 MP at 10 fps, is it unreasonable to assume the 40D will use one Digic III chip to process 10 MP at 5 fps?
Seems like a perfectly reasonable route. That specification, probably Live View, and perhaps an improved AF system. Sounds like a winner.
One thing's for sure... Canon's lack of advancement in the 20D/30D/40D market has given the competition a heck of a chance to catch up or get ahead.
The decision to break routine and get the body to market earlier might not be a bad one if it were to actually take place. If they actually do, it won't leave any time for the competition to react to what they release before fall, so it could be a really strong move to both release it and see major sales prior to 2008.

More pointless rumors, destined to be as true as the last series of pointless rumours before PMA. When are ya'll gonna learn ?
These people have no more idea what Canon is going to do than I do. Why would they be privy to info nobody else has ?
Good luck.
If people want to believe that the 40d is coming in July, let them.
You can't persecute people based on their beliefs. Come on, read the forum rules....
Only TransWarp? I thought they were putting in the short-distance site-to-site transporter so that sports and wedding photographers can zip around more quickly.
