p.3 #1 · How good is Olympus really?

"i cannot see significant advantage from Zuiko lenses compare to other systems. "

at the equivelent field of view the Oly lenses focus much closer than Canon L lenses

Oly 150mm F2 lens 1.4M, Canon 300mm f2.8 lens - 2.5M
Oly 300mm F2.8 lens 2.4M, Canon 600mm F4 lens 5.5M

Using the 150F2 as a "macro" lens is much easier than with a the equivelent 300mm Canon lens;

There are advantages, and as Rob pointed out earlier with the photozone website, they exhibit some of the best edge to edge performance of any system I have seen. And also accross the whole f range.

Very good point. Add to that good control or absence of CA, good flare resistance, excellent construction and less (than other brands) sample variation and one gets an outstanding product for the money. Focusing on a single parameter, say lp/mm, would not tell the whole story.

i think we forget too easily the perils of vignetting, soft edges, abberations and blooming.
Sure we have to work a tad harder on limited DoF, but optimising lens choice aptly deals with that.
My experience today with a potential portrait lens of 135mm/2.8 had the face OOF and the ears in!
When i did the calculations I had a DoF of just 1.32"
I guess I better go back to a fast sharp 50mm

Uncommon and very sensual representation

He should be grateful you are a keen portraitist and not quick-witted a writer.
