p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · 550EX Repair question

I have a 550EX with a broken shoe case. Got the parts online, but when the flash fell, the wires that are soldered directly to the shoe broke off. Anyone knows which wire goes where? Have been looking for a service manual for days now, but can't find it. It's a 5 minute repair job if I knew the wire configuration.

If anyone has a broken 550EX, could you take a picture of the shoe wiring?

BTW, a good site for parts was: http://gallery.bcentral.com/GID2025592DD467339-Replacement-PartsCanonFlash-Parts-by-ModelCanon-Speedlite-550EX.aspx

Thank you,
Kledi

Thank you for the answer Dan, but even on that site, I cant find the internal wiring information.

A picture is worth a thousand words:

Sorry Kledi. I thought you were just wiring the internal wires you show above to a new (replacement) hot shoe connector that mounts onto the 550ex assembly base were it is shown broken off. .

Yes, the wires I show in the picture should be soldered to the hotshoe connector of the 550ex. The new hotshoe connector shall be here in a couple of days, but practically I have no idea where I should solder each wire, and don't want to play with it as I dont want to damage the camera by some bad wiring.

I superglued this hotshoe case once, but when it broke for the second time, the hotshoe connector stayed on the camera and the flash fell cutting all the 6 wires to the hotshoe connector leaving me with no idea where each wire went.

This is inside the shoe case. On one side there is the connector that plugs into the upper part of the 550ex. The open wires should be soldered to the hotshoe connector.

http://www.pronet.com.al/kledi/broken-550ex-3.jpg

There is 6 wires, pin 1 to 5 on the connector and pin 9

pin1 RED
pin2 WHITE
pin3 ORANGE
pin4 GREEN
pin5 YELLOW
pin9 BLUE

Would you say 1 to 5 should match with the numbering in the second picture?

If anyone could take a picture of the 550EX hotshoe wiring I'd really appreciate it.

Kledi, has anyone ever told you you were tough on shoes? I thought I'd interject a little humor at this time of despair.

I did not break that shoe. A friend gave the 550 to me broken. I superglued it once, but there was a piece of plastic missing to the shoe case, so it was broken again after 2 days of use.
