p.1 #1 · Sacred Waters: Havasu Canyon

Here's a collection of images taken over the last couple of years in one of the most
extraordinary places I've ever had the pleasure of spending time. Havasu
Canyon and its legendary waterfalls and blue-green waters is one of the
true gems of the Grand Canyon. I can say, without exception, the colors of this
incredible watershed are the most saturated I've ever experienced. The Havasupai
are wonderful hosts; the campground (at the right time of year) is uncrowded &
peaceful; the place is just totally conducive to creativity. If you like waterfalls,
intense colors & amazing light, recreational hiking & swimming, living
under the stars in another world, go sometime . . .

Enjoy . . .

Derek,

I'm sure you don't need any of us to tell you these are outrageously impressive. It looks like you had plenty of time to work the landscape, as these seem fairly comprehensive. My jaw hit the floor on more than a few of them. Very nice. Interested to know what part of fall you were there, as the colors are just phenomenal.

Derek, a wonderful series of a breathtaking area. It's very high on my list, and I think it just moved up a couple of notches! All are very well done!

What a fine, beautiful series. They are all terrific photos, and those I am most sensitive to are 7, 9 and the last one, for their immensely pleasing reflections.
Absolutely well done !

These are simply wonderful Derek. My personal favourites are the close-up waterfall images with the bright yellow fall reflections.

Nice series. Brilliant colours of both water and foilage. Havasu is one of my favourite place, especially in the fall.

Wow, some really great shots. Makes me want to jump in and veg out in the water...

Probably no better place in the world to do just that! I usually like to spend at least half a day there in trunks, water shoes, hiking, jumping off the ledges and swing ropes and swimming between deep crystal clear pools.

Aaaahhhhh, heaven!!

Hi Derek,
Can I add my praise to the many others above. Every one of these images is a stunner, worthy of printing big and hanging on the wall. The water in each is fantastic
Well done.

Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful comments.

Many have PM'd for info on how to and when to and my suggestion is to first go check out the dates (on each image) in my three Havasu galleries on my pbase site:

A Havasu Thanksgiving
Call o' the Canyons: Havasu Canyon
Havasu Spring: A Waterfall Mecca

You can also get a lot of information about the geographic layout, camping, hiking in, other forms of transport, etc. from the announcement for our Springtime in Havasu Workshop scheduled for the last week in April.

I'm more than happy to answer any additional questions but you can get a lot of information by going to the sites listed above. Another good source is the Havasupai Tribe's website at http://www.havasupaitribe.com/index.htm

I sincerely hope many of you can make it down to this incredible place. Just remember though, in season (Memorial Day-Labor Day) it can be very hot, crowded, a little less optimal than slightly off-season. Not that you won't get great stuff by getting up early to shoot the falls and then hiking down the canyon from the campground, but be prepared.

Best of luck to all!!

The composition, exposure and colors of all of these photos are A++. What kind of post processing if any did you do.
