It is not only a possibility but it is a sure thing that Canon is working on that camera. What it will be named, the specs, and when it will be inroduced is something we don't quite know yet .

PMA 2007 just ended 3 days ago on March 11th and you already want to talk about rumors for this autumn? wow...
There were thousands if not billions of rumors on the 40D on this forum pre-PMA, just go thru the 1,000+ pages of the thread titled something-like "Pre-PMA rumor thread" and knock yourself out...

....And this is what it boils down to: The 30D isn't doing well. It isn't any less of a camera compared to when it came out, but if that's your yard stick, then get a clue. This isn't about the specifications, it's about the competition, and here the 30D is showing its age. Its sales have taken a beating from the D80, D200 and the K10D and it will continue to do so. .....

Since you appear to have this information, would you please post the worldwide
unit sales of each of these cameras for the past several months or so ?

We must rememebr that total sales of 20D and 30D are more important to Canon then just short term sales numbers of the 30D. 99% of the R&D dollars spent were for the 20d the 30d just added a few improvements theat the 5D had. The 30D release was more about getting 20d and 350 owners to upgrade.

I wonder how many 20D's and 30D's have been made? It seems like you can pick up exellent condition used models on this forum for quite a bit less than new. Could that be cannibalizing sales, that the market is already saturated?

I would like to see the US figures for 30D sales. I can tell you that 5 of my friends have bought 30D's in the last few months. These friends live in East Alabama and the Metro Atlanta area but most bought their cameras from B&H. If these were any comparable indication of nationwide sales I would think it still does pretty well.

That translation is a hoot - I especially like the "rubbish removal function" of the Rebel Xti and the "digital one-eyed market" (I think they are referring to SLRs).

The numbers seem to indicate Olympus has fallen off the map.

From a very unscientific, observation only perspective... in the PA, NJ, NY area, I see about 5 serious Nikons to each serious Canon (20D and up). If I am at a political press conference the number is even higher. On a recent trip to DC it was so heavily tilted torward Nikon that I was begining to think that everyone else knew something I didn't. Then I got my senses back and realized that it was really the other way around.

Ok, just got back from 2 days CeBIT in Hannover.

I had a great time. Saw many new and interesting technologies, saw great and potentially great products (the wide gamut LED backlit Samsung 30" 2560x1600 TFT screen made me drool!) but Canon was nearly nowhere to be seen. Not even a 1D Mk III in sight on saturday.

I guess some planning had changed recently, since CeBIT was tauting Canon as being one of the high profile brands to show. This weekend they definately were lacking in that department

Actually, WPPI is next week in Las Vegas - Same players in the trade show, with some interesting variations - actually, the WPPI show is more geared to the interests of advanced amateurs, in that the focus is away from digicams and general public photo merchandise, and geared more towards Portraiture and Wedding (duh, that's why they call it that), so Fine Art photography needs are more addressed - for example, people like Hahnemule Paper, Really Right Stuff and InkJetArt have booths, and they were not present at PMA.

I may be able to go again, this time for a full day, and to perhaps head over to Zion and Page....
