When I took my first photography class in 1993, I hated portraits. They were so stiff and formal! Even when I got into photography this year with my Rebel XT, I had very little interest in portraiture. I planned to focus on landscape and macro photography. I don't know what changed, but now I have a passion for portraits. There is something about taking a person’s picture, and trying to capture it in an artistic, though provoking manner, that captivates me. These pictures represent the burning embers of life; for a moment they flair into our minds, bright and vivid, and then are gone. However, the print before us captures them forever.
Despite the many flaws and lack of skill, the following are some of my favorites over the year. As a side note the photographs of the two girls was taken as a gift for a neighbor.
I am new to this forum and photography. I bought an 400D a few months ago along with a 50mm 1.8 lens. Theis is the best portrait I have so far. Unfortunately I don't have a kid or a beautiful model. That will come later.
