Well, as the year winds down to an end I'd like to keep with the FM tradition and start the thread for Best of 2006. Please post your SINGLE best shot of the year and tell us why it is special to you.
I'll start with this female hawk, one of the local birds I came to know and love in 2006. I photographed her (and her mate) many many times throughout the year until a large housing project drove the birds off, never to be seen again. Here's my personal (sentimental) favorite of 2006.
Laura, I've seen many of your hawk shots, and this is definitly one of the best. I also have shot couple of red-tailed and harries in a local park quite few times, but always did it from down under, so this eye level capture showing its back popped into my mind when I thought about my best of 2006. http://www.thruthefinder.com/gallery/img/060307151347.jpg
Hi laura , you and the other members certainly have most of the best shots this year. I shot very little this year as you know from my lack of post , but i did get at least one that I like. Sorry it doesn't have feathers
My favorite "feathers" shot is of this American Coot feeding her chick... must be the ugliest baby around... I know we aren't supposed to comment on the looks of the models... hehehehe...

p.s. Anyone wanting to send me tips on how to get close to hawks... I would really appreciate it... they leave when I get in the same county...
My best of 2006, would have to be one of 3 shots of Loons I took this summer.
They are among the best if not the best I've taken "technically" in terms of exposure, IQ etc. They also had alot of personal acheivement value. Loons and Wolves are likely my favorite wildlife subjects, being synonomous with camping in Alqounquin as a kid.
So prior to heading up north this summer with my family I was both looking forwards to shooting some loons and somewhat hopeful/fearfull that Id nail the chance. Fortunately I had alot of chances and nailed quite a few and missed as many or more
Tough choice deciding which "one" of 2 or 3. They both are shots a mother and baby. The one having the baby seemingly resting its head on its mother shoulder is probably a better shot, but this one is my favorite. If I listen closely I can almost hear its call.
