Whether it's a fighter or a people mover, aircraft are amazing creations! I discovered on this shoot that the winglets on this model aircraft will pay for themselves in fuel savings in less than 36 months of service.

Ya gotta admit, the notion of walking into an aluminum tube that is going to be propelled to freezing and unbreathable heights, by huge round cans with liquid dynamite being pumped into them, is a pretty incredible act of faith!

I have never read a thread of this lenght end to end. Thank for such a wonderful display. As an aviation buff, your work is a fantasy for me. You are a great inspiration!
Thanks for your kind comments! I love what I do and realize more every day how truly blessed I am to be able to do it for a living. I've been a member of this website and one other since digital became professionally viable with the introduction of the Canon D30, much has changed in the few short years that have followed. I still shoot some 4x5 film and some 120/220 with my Fuji GX 617 panoramic camera, but I've put over a million digital exposures on a variety of Canon cameras in the past five years. My three cases of Hasselblad gear haven't seen daylight in well over two years (except to exercise the shutters), and I sold my last EOS 1V a year ago with only a few rolls of film having been run through it.
I've toyed with the idea of doing some landscape seminars and some general photographic business seminars, but haven't really gotten down to organizing that. My shooting schedule is pretty solid and when I'm not shooting, I'm looking for that next new client to serve.
Hope all of you have had an opprtunity to check out my website Jimwilsonphotography.com I think you'll be surprised at the variety of subjects that I shoot. It keeps my perspective fresh and opens all kinds of doors that specializing in just one type of photography would preclude.
Got another early one tomorrow, 'er today. Enjoyed it guys!

P.S. Here's a final one for tonight with a quiz attached.. Which of the three subjects in this image is the most expensive/dangerous?

Which of the three subjects in this image is the most expensive/dangerous? Has to be the sunglasses! They fall out of her hand..she in turn freaks out because they were expensive... she kicks the Harley which hits the plane causing millions in damage... So...I say the sunglasses!
Thank you JW for the link and the comments. I will have a look tomorrow. I know I am in for a treat.
Photo platform during a week long shoot on Vancouver Island. Before anyone envys this assignment, let me describe the conditions.......40 degrees, driving rain, low light, lower ceilings, two cases of hypothermia. In the end, when I knew we were all going to live, I realized I wouldn't have traded the experience for anything.

Even upside down...! I need to make sure that the camera bag is properly closed though...
I am passionate about aviation and collect WWII flying helmets and other pilot's gear (I only wear WWII pilot's watches of which I have a good collection as well). So you can imagine what kind of powerful emotions I had seeing your images and learning that someone can work as a photographer doing the things that you do. What an exciting life...
I am an executive in a software firm and do photography for fun and as I always say, "For now I am a traveller who takes photographs rather than a photographer who travels, then we will see..."
If we ever happen to be in the same spot (I vist the US a couple of times a year at least), I will be honoured to shake hands. What are the best airshows that one should not miss?
Once again, thanks for being out there doing the things that many of us would like to do and for opening a window on what it is like to do it.
Just let me know if you're ever in the Dallas area. I'd be happy to give you the nickel tour! Thank you for taking time to enjoy my images, it's really the reason I do it! Don't hesitate to contact me if I can help you in any way.
Sincerely,
Jim
