Ahhh, just was and my local store and they received M8s, but not black so I could just pick up the chrome one for my uncle and will have to wait for my black one;(
The next black arriving will be mine though. just dont know when that will happen.

Just curious, what country is the M8 actually manufactured (more likely just assembled)? I thought I read it was Portugal. I assume the electronics could be made in other places as well.

Germany without any doubt or quibble. This particular red herring was started by a certain R.P.

Holger received on from Leica-bei-Meister in Berlin, and his was just the first *silver* version. It is possible that someone else has already got the first black version. I would say that they seem to arrive at the same time as the ones in Paris. Shipping delays probably account for any minor differences.

Carsten:

Do you have any M lenses if you get your chrome M8 next week?

Nope. I would get the 50 Lux Asph. at the same time, and in January add the Apo 75/2, and somewhere in between, the CV15. I am still on the fence about Leica 24/2.8 vs. Leica 28/2 vs. Leica 28/2.8 vs. CV 28/1.9.

Since the "Lex Sean" has been introduced into the rules of this forum, this site has become much less interesting. I am wandering off to the Leica Camera and RFF forums.
This forum is following the bad example of the photo-net and Rob Galbraith fora, you no longer feel free to speak. FM is the owner of the place and he can of course set the rules he wants.
It is up to us users to see whether we want to stay or rather post in a friendlier place. FM is not the only M8 forum and not even the best.
I regret this for Guy who has invested a lot of time, enthusiasm and effort.

One of the big dealers in the UK told me today that his first shipment had already arrived and had all been shipped out.

The next batch was due December, and with the waiting list, new orders now would be months away from receipt.

This is just a test.

Just checking, it looks like some of my posts have disappeared.

Yeah, they did refer in a positive way to S*** R***, so maybe that was it.

I agree that for the M8, the leica-camera-user.com forums seem more appropriate, but for general Alternative discussions, this is still a great place. As long as you aren't pushing a product (note: I was on Sean's side on this issue), everything is fine here.

FYI, there is a great discussion going on over at the Rangefinder Forum regarding the effects of adding sharpness through having no AA flter, adding sharpness later with software, removing noise with software, removing noise with downsampling, and other related stuff.

It is called "Sean Reid's M8 Review"...

Hi Guys,

my first step in the M8 arena.
Today I ordered my M8 body.

Last week, I was in Italy making images at local markets with
the DMR set up. I was stopped several times by people that asked if I was of the Press.

Time to get something smaller in addition to the DMR.

Like so many of the readers, I am now tryiing to find out which lenses would fulfill my needs
and hunger for max image quality.
I just bumped into a local offer for a M Summicron 50mm f/2
price around EUR450 serial number 3931770
Is that a good choice? A new version? I tried to check the serial number at Summilux.net,
but without result.

Thanks in adavnce.

Marcel

Marcel, that is probably a good starter lens and if in good shape, a good price. By the serial number it would be a reasonlably new lens, probably from the late 1990's. Any 50mm Summicron built after 1979 is the same optical formula and a wonderful lens.

It will give you similar performance to your 35-70mm f2.8 in the 50mm range, maybe a bit better. It has lovely smooth bokeh similar to the 35-70mm f2.8.

Get it quick before the used M price skyrockets.

Dear Marcel

Good to hear from you. It all starts again, yes? with now the "M" lenses!

Ok, so where do you use those "R" things?

Hi Rob and Victor,

thanks for your very warm welcome. It is nice when you are landing on a new planet, some old friends have already settled.
But I have to be patient. Placing an order means I am added to the waiting list.
This give me some time to hunt down some lenses.

Initially I had ordered a back up 35-70 2.8 at Ffordes. They currently have one for a reasonnable price. I traded in my 180 f/2.8 and my Canon 100-400 L.
When I started filling in the payment form, I suddenly realized, the M8 would be the same amount of money. And as I mentioned, I really need something smaller....

Marcel,

If you are in Europe you can get from SHphoto. They give discounts if yousay you are from RFF. Its better than nothing. They also have many used M lenses. Congrats.

Well, there just maybe a very long history of interactions (99% good) among various members of these forums that would explain this comment. And no need to worry, it probably won't be explained to you.

Back to topic- silver M8 for me, please.
