please calm down. Remember, Photokina is this year again and everyone goes all out at that time. If Canon did it now, everybody would be upset that after a half-yea they are already upgrading the just new SLR...
I've been a pro shooting Canon since 1972, when a Nikon broke in some far off exotic land, and I'm happy with what I have. My lenses cover the range from 14 to 400. If I need more reach, I call CPS and borrow a 500 or 600 for 10 days at no charge. No complaints from this pro!

Frankly I am glad I switched , they really don’t deserve a dime from pro photographers and they sit there and scratch there head wondering why pro’s or advanced hobbyist are buying Zeiss and leica lenses.
Yeh it may suck some but ...what is it like 90% of Pros use Canon vs. 5% Leica users for 35mm (1.6 / 1.3 crop) Cameras
Canon targets where the demand is. Sorry to say but they make money in entry/prosumer level so, that's where spending their resources. I can't blame them with that decision.

Ok this is just getting ridiculous. How is *anyone* screwed here?
I mean, you're talking like canon doesn't already have THE BEST pro bodies available, and a huge array of fantastic lenses.
What are they missing? Just because you want more doesn't mean they're obligated to give it to you. Quit griping, go out and take more pictures.
Well, if you don't know Guy, he already mentioned he sold all his Canons. And, he's been shooting pictures with Leica/Zeiss long before I even got my first digital camera.
I was and still hoping that canon would some day release a top of the line 17mm prime lens. This has been the most 'underwhelming announcement' since I have got in Digital Photography. I am guessing that it is the marketing of Canon to push people to buy more of their flagship full frame camera 'The 5d'

Dennis tell that to every 5d, 1dsMKII owner and that number gets huge. What you guys need to be doing is complaining so you are heard. a handful will never get the job done. It's so much fun to come in and say hello .
maybe i was bored today.ROTFLMAO
Guy, you will never hear that complain from people who never owned a 1DS or 1DSII. Hey, I'm not complaining, 'cause I never owned those FF bodies.
I understand you not being happy about the wide angle situation, on the other hand maybe it's simply a case of the announcement/into of new WA's being made later in the year at Photokina.
Canon's been concentrating on their dSLR's and I think they've done a fantastic job, though the prices need to come down. If they don't address the WA problem it will cost them, and I think Canon is too smart to let that happen by delaying longer, but I certainly could be wrong.
All that said, I'm shooting with a 1Ds and I love the thing. When the new 1Ds series body comes out I'll snag a Mk II. At some point Canon will place more resources to upgrading glass, hopefully sooner than later.
As you seem so hyped over getting a perfect wide angle (like the 21 zeiss i guess), what are you hoping for? not that i have the 24L or 35L but i thought they were pretty decent at least. I know there is a lack on the cheaper wide angles (20,24,28,28)

You know Canon just screwed the pro’s again , no wide angle , no pro body but another version of a 1.6.
Yes, somewhere in Japan there's a Canon marketing manager saying "Yes! We scored! Guy Mancuso is ticked off; just exactly what we wanted!"
I certainly would like to see better wide angles from Canon - especially at moderate prices. So in that sense I feel your pain, Guy.
But let's face it, they're aiming for the middle of the DSLR market with this round of new products. The 30D and the 17-55/2.8 EF-S are just exactly what an amateur photographer like me would be looking for. As for pro bodies, the 1D Mark IIn is too new to expect a replacement this soon.
As always, if you don't like what Canon has to offer, don't buy it. Judging from the equipment list in your signature, Guy, I'd say you've already voted with your dollars.
35L is decent, the 24L is soft in the corners.. That means the widest sharp* canon lens for my 20D is an equivalent standard lens...
Tim
* when I say sharp I mean sharp enough to not smudge more than 2 pixels. That means a lens that will consistently outresolve a 2Mp sensor.. That can't be too much to ask can it?
Guy,I respect your concern.Indeed, canon doesn't have a WOW wideangle prime..
They produce excellent 135mm f2 (what a lens !! ) and 300mm 2.8.But I always feel that this wideangle issues have been exaggerated.More pro photogarphers make a living out of canon systems than Leicas. You may have a valid reason to switch. But not all pro photographers take your path because of obvious reasons.
On the other hand, I feel this new 30D looks like a real camera with some nice features.
I believe its a digital version of a camera between Elan 7 and EOS-3.
