p.1 #1 · So how many 20D brethren jumping to the 30?

I don't think I am, at least not for a while. All of the new stuff added is nice but I'm not sure if it's enough to dump my 20 and spend a likely $400 to $500 differense to pick up a 30D.
The 5D is certainly looking more and more interesting and one has to wonder if they have another body up their sleve to slot in as a "high-end" crop camera. Maybe in the fall?
This also puts a bit of a damper for me on the 17-55IS. Not being sure if I want to jump ship to FF makes it REALLY hard to swallow the price of what does look to be a very interesting lens.

I just had this discussion with a fellow fotog only moments ago. For any looking for a second 20D like body, the 30 makes perfect sense (or even for someone looking for a 20D like body now). However, as a current happy 20D owner for the last year and a half, my next step is likely a 1 series, so I certainly won't be jumping up to the 30D. If anything, the 30 is a testament to just how great the 20D body is.

The next camera for me will either be a 5D or the 6D

I'm dumping the 20D, but not necessarily for the 30D. Does that count?

If I still have my 20D I will NOT upgrade to 30D. But then I have no body that can use EF-S so I think it's time for me to upgrade my 10D. No, I'm not looking forward to EFS 17-55, I want my EFS10-22 back.

well.. when i got my 20D (the first one that arrived), i returned my 300D and got the full-price back (after 8 months, aproved by Canon rep. ), so i only had to pay something like 300 euro more (can't remember) to get the 20D.
If i could do the same thing with this one i would probably do it, cause spotmeter sounds very good 2 me. But that will not be possible. So i'll probably buy a new lens instead. If i'm upgrading i'll buy a 1D and keep my 20d at it's side (with a 17-55 maybe? ).

I won't be going to the 30D. 5D perhaps but may wait until the next body appears.

Not me this round. But the next round could be interesting if Canon is satisfied with its camera price points now. Wonder which model is first in line for an upgrade now? Methinks the 5D.

The next camera due for replacement/upgrade is the 1Ds Mk II. If not the 350D/Rebel XT I guess. There has been alot of rumours of a new EOS 3000D.

It would be intresting to see what would replace the 1Ds 2, But I rekon it will only be a slight upgrade like the 1D Mk IIn.

If it had better AF (i.e. more points) I would be seriously considering it. I've always thought it was the little things (ISO in viewfinder, Spot Meter) that make/break a camera.

Next camera will be a 5D, 1DIIN, or 1DsII.

I'll get a 30D ... if my 20D is hurt by accident somehow.

im still trying to think of another body to backup my 5D. right now for me it is the EOS 3 lol ( i just cant make myself get rid of it ) I may just get a second 5D

the 30D wouldve piqued my interest if it was in the 10+ mpx like we all thought it was gonna be.

but NOOOO. i was all excited for today and i feel so let down.

where are the new WA primes canon?!!?

Only if I needed a 2nd body , I would buy 30D and keep 20D as a backup body. They are shared the same BG and batteries , aren't they.

And yet, somehow, you managed to find it in yourself to write the above. (just teasing)

Plenty happy with my 20D at the moment.

The only way I would make the jump to a 30D or whatever it is if it was more than 10mp and more than 5 frames a second. Too happy with the images from my 20D at the present moment.

Haven't been tempted by the 5D and am not tempted by the 30D. The 20D has everything I need at the moment.
I'll have to think about the 17-55. I need a walk-around lens - but the price is a bit steep for that. Oh, and then there's the 85L I've been eyeing for a while. ;-)
So, on the whole I'm much more tempted by lenses than bodies....

It's obvious to me that Canon has decided NOT to upgrade the 20D and I will not be side-grading (the 30D is not an upgrade IMO). If anything, I will be going for a 1 series body but will stick with a crop factor so maybe a used 1D Mark II? I'm very happy with my 20D and will continue to hone my photographic skills before even thinking about an upgrade. However, that 17-55mm lens looks pretty good for anybody starting out or sticking with an efs compatible body and I think I may get me one to try out!

The 30D has a bunch of little extras that make it tempting (3.5% spot meter in particular), but in reality I just can't see it as an "upgrade" to my 20D. They almost got ISO in the viewfinder right, and the bigger LCD would be handy at times.

They should have just named it the 20D Mk II.

The 17-55/2.8 IS has some promise, but for the retail cost I'll pass ($650 - $700 would be closer). My 17-85 IS has more general versatility and the Sigma 500 flash overcomes most of my low light shootiing issues.
