p.1 #1 · About to die?

I've just started seeing a small problem with my 300D. I'm wondering if it isn't telling me that its days are numbered. I've got about 15k actuations on it.

When I first touch the shutter, I get a quiet little click and a flicker in the viewfinder. The shutter fires normally when fully pressed.

Mirror going bad?

The mirror shouldn't be doing anything when you half-press the shutter release button.

Sounds more like a weird diaphragm malfunction...does it do it with different lenses mounted?

I don't think it has anything to do with the shutter/mirror since you say it only happens when you "Half press" the shutter.

Could be a electrical fault?

Your best bet would be to bring it to your local camera store (Or to Canon) and see if the staff can help you out.

Do you have an IS lens mounted by chance?

No IS lens.
I know I noticed it with my Sigma 150mm macro on...I can't say for sure if it has done it with any other lens since I shot with that one lens most of the day.
I'll have to try things out.
Diaphram...that sounds like a real possibility.

Get it looked at. it might be nothing, it might be something. Continually using it because it still takes pictures is probably a bad idea.

Reminds me of stories (both true and fabricated) of people driving with the oil light on in their car....

I've now tried it with a number of lenses...only fails with the Sigma 150mm.
Looks like it's time to test out Sigma's customer service.
